South Park: The Stick of Truth and THQ Montreal Purchased by Ubisoft; Take Two Purchases Evolve; Crytek Purchases Homeworld; Deep Silver purchases Volition (Saints Row) and Metro; SEGA takes Relic (Warhammer & Company of Heros)

Personally, I think Ubisoft is a decent game dev even if Uplay is annoying. Hopefully THQ Montreal will merge with Ubisoft Montreal, the guys that made Far Cry 3.

Evolve was taken by Take Two, nobody really knows what it is though as it is currently unannounced.

Crytek took Homefront, which seems to me a good match.

Deep Silver, the guys that published Risen and Dead Island, took the Metro franchise and Volition (Saints Row). This one seems like a poor match, and I really don't have much confidence in Deep Silver.

SEGA has a bunch of experience with strategy games due mainly to the Total War franchise, so hopefully their purchase of Relic will work out.

A bunch of devs from Vigil (Darksiders) are currently looking for jobs so I don't really have high hopes for them.

Vigil (Darksiders) and the WWE franchise have yet to be sold.

Deep Silver plans to take full control of the Saints Row and Metro franchises, rather than leaving SR with Volition. Source

According to IGN there are rumors that WWE will go to Take Two.

Plantinum Games (Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising) seems to be interested in the Darksiders franchise. I would be extremely happy if they were the ones to buy it. Source

UPDATE: Apparently Homeworld was not included with Runic, and currently there is a fundraiser on indiegogo "Save Homeworld"

Prices:

  • $500k Homefront (Crytek)
  • $26M for Relic (Sega)
  • $2.5M for THQ Montreal (Ubisoft)
  • $3.2M for South Park (Ubisoft)
  • $11M for Evolve (Take-Two)
  • $22.3M for Volition (Koch Media)
  • $5.8M for Metro (Koch Media)

Clicky, although I'm not sure if it was 40k or Fantasy they got.

That's fantasy, CA has the license for fantasy, Relic had the license for 40k. Now Sega owns them both

Not only did you basically copy and paste the whole article, but all of this has been posted in the various threads already.

Only two of these were posted in individual threads, figured I may as well put them all together. I only copy-pasted the prices.

Your personal opinions deserve their own thread as opposed to a reply in a preexisting one?

I know you want a pat on the back, but it won't be coming from me.

So EA got nothing? So far so good ...

Kinda agree about lacking confidence in Deep Silver, except one thing. As long as Volition stays whole, they are their own developers. At least Deep Silver didn't cut up Dead Island or Risen into as much DLC as THQ forced Saints Row 3 and the last few Warhammer 40K games into.

Most of the Saints Row DLC was cosmetic though so I didn't really mind. They were just struggling to hang in their towards the end though and got desperate.

STALKER is nothing like metro... i have played all STALKER's and metro 2033 for over 100 hours each and the only similarity is that they are set in Russia and are 'post-apocalyptic'.... beyond that there is nothing to compare

this is all nothing but bad news. deep silver is going to ruin saints row 4, ubisoft is... well ok i dont care about south park, so it wont bother me when that game gets drm'd up the ass with always-on drm, and sega.. ugh..

but crytek? i thought crytek was shifting into doing purely f2p crappy online games after crysis 3, werent they?

Ubisoft is just as bad as EA and Activision. Ubisoft is just EA but on a smaller scale.

Well, Ubisoft makes good games its only Uplay that is bad.

And for me, I play most Ubi games on my 360, and Uplay isn't bad or even necessary there.

Permalink

And the statements they come out with aren't too great either. Plus inaccessible games on day one. Lack of patches. Poor optimisation. So no, Uplay isn't the only thing that is bad.

How does Homefront have more value as an IP than Darksiders?

Permalink

THQ lost a bunch of money off Darksiders 2, that may have scared some people off.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But with all the sales and bundles that Darksiders had I'm sure it has a decent fanbase. If handled correctly and marketed to the existing fans I'm sure it would turn a profit.

I bid 4 dollars on Vigil. Darksiders 3 could be a very profitable game if handled properly. In my opinion Square would've done great if they had bought Vigil and funded DS3.
