I'm not sure if it's what you mean, but maybe give Starmade a go? The early access on Steam is cheap, but if you go to the dev's website you can download and play the whole thing for free, no limitations. Hard to beat trying it completely for free :)

Crashlands. Its relaxing, crafting is smooth and well done. Also has quite a bit of content for an indie game.

Stranded Deep has a crafting system that seems a bit different than usual.
Even though the game has great potential, at the moment it lacks the content to keep you playing after some time.
