Halfway through, buying a Mac right after buying the incompatible os (for anything) vista, I like how you still carried on with the blasphemy. You are really grateful to the sg admins.

steamcompanion has very good ideal. if their ads is block, they will show an image asking the user to whitelist them. I think steamgift should use this too.

Joke's on you, I use uBlock, but I use it just for blocking video ads and fake download buttons, so I disable it on websites with organised advertisements like this one.

why not add a donation button?
I'm sure I wouldn't mind to donate a bit if I get a significant value out of SteamGifts, it'd only be fair enough

I really can't stand ads, I've had enough of it lol. When I was small and watched lots of TV, it'd really piss me off that literally 25% of the screen time was filled in with stupid ads. I mean, even the ads are BAD and stupid and boring. I recall that ads in international news channels for example, are at least somewhat interesting... pfff

on the Internet, you have personalized ads :) For example, I told Google that I would like to see technics and smartphones and bicycles... And now I am finally getting all the Baby Food, Vagina disease and athlete's foot ads :) I don't know what you want and what is so bad about this :)

Also, you can donate by giving away games, but the website hosts still need to maintain their services.

as a matter of principle, I won't giveaway before I know I can win as well, so I'll have to win something 1st

and givingaway is not a donation for those who run the site

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I also started giving away after winning, there is nothing wrong about that.

But why do you use adblock on here? There is only 1 small ad and that one is about gaming

really?
I'll give it a short try then. The common thing is for a site to spam the screen and launch videos and crap

the add uses flashplayer, those are the worst since they are resource consuming, and flashplayer is also resource consuming by itself

another flashplayer

WTF, now I'm getting an add from the specific country I am in, I hate things that automatically get this kind of info ffs

Uhm... ok...

First of all, I guess you now refreshed the website and watched the ads so often that steamgifts has as much money as if you would not use adblock for a year :D

For the ads: They do not gain your informations (country, visited items, ...), but Google does. So if you do not want to have that, abolish all Google services.

repeating ads are not that annoying if you do not refresh the website every 2 seconds :D

Also, you are not supposed to want everything an ad tells you to. It is even good that you do not want that all. Because that would mean that Google has ALL information about your life that exist. So I would be happy if ads show me things I don't want (except screaming/laughing babys)

But all in all- at least you tried a lot :)

Odd. The adds I'm getting on steamgifts were only simple picture ads.
I really dislike flash ads as well. Had an ad once that made my PC go to 100% CPU :/

by that logic you should not switch tv channels during breaks, don't skip ads in magazines, don't put a "no advertisement" sticker on your mailbox, not use a spam filter on your emails / mailserver.

I'm fine with turning adblock off on SG, but that doesn't mean I want advertisement everywhere. If your revenue relies on ads alone you're doing it wrong.

I LOVE TV breaks, as I am learning the ads in and out. It is always funny to drop them in a talk- or to even create a talk with just advertisment terms :D

Also, using adblock in magazines would more be like cutting out the pages that have ads, and I don't do that. I like advertisment in mail, because it keeps me up to date with my local food stuff (as a gamer, I do not know what is eat-able and so the ads tell me what I can eat) and I love how much broken german they speak in the spam mails. Ok, spam mails are a bit annoying, but all the new terms I learned for saying "buy viagra here"... lol... The creaters of these spam mail texts should become poets :D

Depends on the site. For example here on SG I don't mind having ADblock off, but then there are sites with 100 ads that pop out/scream or make the content of the site not easily accessed.
So I'd rather have my Adblock on and turn it off on sites that I visit regularly and that deserve to earn something more from me

Tried to disable it and push F5 several times. All I'm getting are ads for new Citroen (only 10 000€!), awesome McDonald's coffee (I don't drink coffee </3 )and milk from a local store I've not been to for 6 years, but for only 36c a box so I will definitely give it a try. Well, at least they are in my mother tongue and without sound, thanks, lads. Nothing is worse than watching Tim Horton's and all the crappy pickups (seriously, what's so great about those huge things) all the time.

edit: okay, got "you are our 1 000 000th visitor! get your Apple product" with an animated maple-leaf border. It was fun while it lasted, allowed again.

I never disable ad-blocking, on any website, no matter what - ads are extremely annoying, and pollute your web browsing experience. In my opinion, simply by making giveaways I am supporting the site. A suggestion would be an option on the site to remove ads for a $1 donation or something.

I hate ads so much that I don't only use AdBlock, I also use a modified hosts file, a flash blocking extension (click to play/whitelist) and I disable all images on all sites (except whitelisted domains).

Nasty little buggers.

Something like premium users? That reminds me of Twitch and many other sites, if you pay you don't see ads during one month. You could get other privileges as well, like a badge next to your name, use emoticons or a background in your profile.

I don't use adblock but a modified host file, so I cannot disable it for specific sites :/

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nope, premium is a paid membership with benefits on a website. My suggestion is a one-time small donation that would permanently remove ads for that user.

If you use a modified hosts file, of course you can "disable" it for specific sites. Whatever domain is NOT on your hosts file won't get blocked, so if you want to whitelist some ad that is being blocked, just CTRL + F the text file and remove the entry for that domain.

Turned off my AdBlock here for a bit the other day, then I found out that SG.com features ads that make sounds on mouse-over. Turned it back on immediatelly and never turned it off again.

I use Ghostery and have it activated always in general, also on sg, but once or twice a week I disable it here as tribute for the site for some time.

Btw, will cg get money also when the ad is loaded only but not clicked, or do you need to click it as well, to trigger that payment procedere?

I think it must be clicked. I have thought position for ad in giveaway page is crucial. Several times I have missed the button and clicked the ad

I've stopped using over 6 months ago, I've it still installed and turn it on rarely for unusable sites overflowing with ads.

With easy steamgifts the ads on the main page are partially cropped though :c
