Oh. Here are the English Wikipedia pages for the two series the characters originate from:
PAL SWD (I wrote some of the English entries, though the English articles are still severely lacking in content that exists on their Chinese counterparts)

"Waifu" : Waifu is an Engrish term primarily used by Asian men to refer to one’s own wife. While the colloquial use of the word in East Asan cultures predates its online popularity, the term has been since adopted by Otaku circles and anime fans to refer to one’s favorite female manga or anime character. The male equivalent is commonly referred to as a “Husbando.”

As I said in the OP, there are no limits. Fiction, non-fiction, whatever. I expect most people will choose some kind of celebrity, historical figure, or fictional character, but it can be anyone you want to talk about.

Oh man, like half the population of this site has likely punched your waifu! :P

"Husbando?" Sounds like he's made out of polyurethane. P

Man, political correctness is almost as annoying as genuine bigotry at times. Calm down, imitating an accent is innocuous. It's only when you add a mocking component, or imply that the speakers of an accent are inferior, that you're being racist.

I never tried to say you're racist. You said you thought "husbando" is racist, and I replied, unambiguously, by saying that it's not.

I don't have one, that stuff seems stupid.
Though people do think it is Rikku. I couldn't imagine why.

No way! How could anyone have that misconception!?

While I also like Derpy, you totally left out the second part of your answer. P

It's Japanesque form of "wife". It's matching with Japanese syllabary (ワwa・イi・フfu)

Don't hate Japanese culture because of that kind of approach, Japanese culture is good; most of animes and mangas are fun. It feels like someone strongly recommends something to you and it leads and in the end, naturally you lose your appetite... temporarily.

So liking some fictional character enough to have an urge to make her/him your spouse is weird?
Well...

I have no such silly loneliness-spawning fantasy wife.

Who said your answer had to be based in fantasy? Someone else already mentioned his real-life wife, although he forgot to include the "why" part of his answer.

Time for another spurious forum posting! Today's topic: Who is your "waifu" (i.e. whom do you fancy?), and why? There are no restrictions on responses (beyond the ban on begging for games), so feel free to name whomever you wish. Non-human? No problem. Actual real-life person? Totally acceptable. Can't stick to just one? Create your own menagerie. Don't feel like giving a serious answer? Try for entertaining, instead. )
Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, so I am hopeful that the "why" part of this topic will make interesting reading. Of course, this won't work out too well if people don't mention the qualities they like in said person. P
[Note: This topic is meant to be answered by the women as well as the men, so "waifu" should not be interpreted narrowly.]
