Looks like its for Remastered Edition

These guides are written long before a game's release, this is why they tend to have incorrect information that was changed before a game was shipped but after the guide was finished.

I feel like I'm the only one who don't see the appeal to them. Can't you find that info on the internet?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I can, but for someone, I hope, its more better way to understand what the game is. Many people, many preferences. As for me, I picked up The Witcher III Complete Edition, because very like arts from this game :)

You aren't the only one. I always felt like it was a way for them to swindle money out of gamers. Most of the info can be found in player created guides if you are stuck at some point of the game.

I like them mostly for the art and extra info they contain. If I need help I just google it.

Permalink

They are the same as a 100% text walkthrough or an in-depth game wiki, but they are available at game launch and you don't have to wait for the community to figure everything out. They sometimes also contain in-depth game mechanics descriptions and formulas. They are also fancy books, so lots of nice pictures, sometimes made especially for the guide itself.
Unless you are the kind who has to 100% a game upon launch and cannot wait, they are mildly useful or mostly useless, but they have their market.

Thanks, got it.

I took D3 to check it myself, but I found the guide content is poor though. If this quality is the same as the others, the price tag is a bit high - it's not worth 10 USD / edition.

Agree, for $10 you can get good full game on sale, so guides should be more cheaper

Dark Souls III eGuide
Dark Souls III eGuide (Steam)

wut ? we can redeem on steam ? coz the console version are not different than pc version (apart from the graphics and framerate huhuhu )

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Frame rate can affect more than you'd think. For example, if you want to speedrun Resident Evil 4, you need to choose being able to do a couple of skips only on 30 fps, or take the halved load times of 60 fps. Since a lot of games tie calculations to frames, higher or lower frame rate can affect a lot of in-game events.

Not much reason, these days. Like someone said elsewhere in the thread, they're good if you absolutely need information day one of a game's release. FAQs and Youtube vids take time to show up. And they do tend to be well-written, fact-checked, and well-formatted. Sometimes they even have nice artwork, or interesting lore info or trivia. That could be worth it, sometimes... I know I love my old hard copy Nintendo Power game guides. But these? Only really worth it if free, which is what this thread's about.
