Personal note: When you sign up, G2A will give you one month free of their "G2A Shield Protection" after you pay. I recommend you DISABLE this before the month ends, otherwise you will see a $1.50 MONTHLY charge for their service. I didn't even know about this "service" until my bank statement came. I tried to ask for a refund, but support said they were unable to reverse the charge, which made me angry >_>. Just a heads up if you aren't aware and are planning to use hotrandomkeys!

Disable here: https://pay.g2a.com/panel/shieldStatus

Helpful Tip: user Keohookalani says:
"When the screen comes up, it talks about the shield thing
And has a little graphic... You can totally use this in your main post btw.
If you click the "On" on the shield it will change to "Off" on the graphic. See the attached images [below]."

note- I don't think this option shows up on your mobile phone (what I used to pay)

This site, as some users have noted, appears fishy and a scam. I am not posting this bundle to encourage you to buy this bundle, but to raise awareness about the safety of this bundle site and to hopefully inform you of others' experiences. Yes, perhaps I am not going about this the best way by advertising one of their bundles, but with all the feedback so far, I'm thankful for all the honest responses!

Not quality-wise, but value-wise; so basically this. It was 1c, now they're selling it for $2.

What if you never got it for 1c?
Then it has some value, no?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It has value at both 1c and $2 and arguably at full retail price.
However, the fact that they sold this particular package for a single cent before and is now parading it out again for 200x the price, lessens the current value of it in my opinion.

Oh wow. The badness is on a whole another level.

This was a bad oversimplification/ overgeneralization, and I apologize for the remark.

But it wasn't HRK that was selling it for 1c... that was a different site entirely.
Anyways...

For me it was worth it as I had none of the games, and didn't start buying bundles till this summer And giving away stuff till this summer
For me, at $2.99 I get seven new games for my library and 7 new GAs to make for other people who didn't get it either. :)

hotrandomkeys

Rachel, I really appreciate all the work you do to inform us about new bundles, but this one... I don't know, it seems fishy. The bundle might be legit, but they do it just to get some attention for their main purpose, sell "random" bundle keys for high prices, for a low or non-existant chance to get a AAA game.

Anyways, thanks for all the other deals you post :)

Hey Sewaz,

I was debating whether or not it would be a good idea to put this one up ... It does seem a bit fishy.. I mean I have bought a bundle or two from them without a problem... my main issue with them was their "stupid" Guard protection, which I don't think I was informed about until I saw a charge on my bank statements ...

I could take this down ... but ... I want to see what other people say about this site ... if anything, it could bring more awareness to the community in regards to how "safe" this site is.

I don't like G2A and their practices, but the guard protection is disclosed at checkout (even if it's an opt-out option) - still scummy but not undisclosed.

And yet you're fine that this uses G2A, a popular unauthorized reseller, as the transaction vendor? That's also where they were getting their games from. It's unfortunate that so many people have been letting G2A/Kinguin/etc. run rampant and on occasion even partnering with them like it's something to brag about. "We've partnered with them to bring you <this many copies> of illegally obtained games!" - Dumbass companies. -.-

HRK isn't a "scam"... they got a full list with the games you can win with their random keys so you can calculate the chance of winning the ones you want. Ofc the odds are in their favor but nobody is forcing you to buy their keys.
Some people here seem to think that HRK has a shield option, well they do not. They sell their keys through G2A and G2A has a shield protection option. Turning this on will make sure that if you obtain an "illegal" key you're protected and their site will provide a new one. During every transaction on G2A there is the option to disable G2A shield. I've bought 10+ keys on G2A without shield protection so far and never had a single problem.

I Recommend:

  • Don't buy those random keys, the odds aren't in your favor.
  • If you buy keys through G2A buy them from sellers with good reviews and a lot of transactions. Disable shield.
  • Use a ref link from a friend

I think all the information I've given is correct, if it's not I apologize in advance. Disabling shield is on your own risk.

"they got a full list with the games you can win with their random keys so you can calculate the chance of winning"

No, you can't. It's just like opening CS:GO cases for instance. You know the odds are horribly stacked in their favour, and they won't tell you, so you can't see how bad they are.
I used to post in their Steam group to make the odds public, obviously my comments got ignored. They don't tell you anything. For all you know, it's nearly impossible to get anything good. And if you want to get cynical about it, it's even hard to verify that anyone ever got anything good.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I bought 10 keys from them once and before I did so I contacted their support cause I wanted to know the odds. He told me that you had an even chance to win every game on their list. I bought 10 random keys to try it out and had like 18% of winning a game I wanted. From those 10 keys there actually was one on my list. Maybe the support didn't tell me the truth and I just got extremely lucky, I don't know.

I've noticed that they started selling fixed keys for new games as well combined with some random keys. Ex: diablo III + 4 keys for 17$; Mad Max + 4 keys for 24$. Those are really good deals if you ask me.

I didn't feel cheated, but I won't be buying any more random keys from them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's actually pretty nice to know! If they didn't mind sharing the odds, I wonder why they don't write this piece of information somewhere? Knowing that the chances are even would most likely attract people since you expect them to be worse than that. But you're right that it's hard to know whether this is really true.

I got 17 random keys from them so far, some of them as only random keys in packs and some of them as the 4 keys given to a fixed game purchase like Mortal Combat. So far I got 2 good one beside bundled games: Shadow of Mordor and Tomb Raider.

OK, I get why everyone is suspicious and skeptical, so I'm just going to point out my experience:

  1. All the keys I needed from the bundle activated on Steam just fine.

  2. Hot Random Keys has better and more complete site functionality than Bundle Stars. Just let that sink in.

  3. It was very easy to decline signing up for G2A Shield, as someone already pointed out. One click, and that was it.

  4. I got the bundle because I was missing four of the games, so that made it worthwhile. I look at it as $0.50 for each game I didn't have.

  5. None of the previous bundles have had seven of the related games like this bundle. One of the others had six games, but it didn't have Alien Hallway.

I'm still in shock over just how decent the HRK site is, especially compared to a big name like Bundle Stars.

HRK might be shady, but at least they have decent site functionality.

Alien Shooter Revisited was not in the Indie Gala Stress Test bundle so it is slightly different. I bought it separately 3 months back on the IG Store for $0.99 to complete the set.

Edit: Only played Hallway so far and I liked it actually. It's very basic, one of those corridor games where you destroy the AI base before they destroy yours, and you create different fighters to go attack theirs. Lots of that kind of game around, often on phones, Battlepillars is another similar one. Ended up with all the achievements with Alien Hallway.

I probably wouldn't touch this if I didn't have them all anyway because of G2A and because they usually just appear to be selling keys from other bundles at a profit on HRK.

I only tried Alien Breed Impact at my friends place and I didn't like it. If I remember right the controls and camera "control" were quite awkward.

Also the game wasn't anywhere near as action packed like say Alien/Zombie shooters where you constantly fight hordes of aliens/zombies. Alien Breed Impact just felt like a game where you're supposed to do repetitive boring objectives and back-track all the time with very little action in between.

Does that actually changes later on in the game?
