In some cases yes, but in many games you have even 25% more fps in 1080p (i.e. 75 vs 58fps in the COD test I linked). So it's not only for 4K and such. Also new games have higher resolution textures than older ones, so it will matter in the long run.

4gb is for +1080p gaming, if you play at lower resolution dont bother.
but your main concern is the processing power of the GPU and im not up to date on the nvidia line up
