I've been using Rapoo 7100p Wireless Optical Mouse for more than 2 years now. It's not a gaming mouse, but a very good mouse regardless. Not too long ago, the mouse wheel started to not work properly anymore and the right-click button wore out. I'm currently setting my eyes on Logitech G403 Prodigy Wireless to be bought by the end of the year, as its USB charging adapter also functions as a mouse cable. But I'm still open to any other suggestions.

I rarely play comp FPS games or MOBA. So is wired over wireless still a necessity or just a matter of choice?

My current mouse weighs about 4 ounces (approx. 110 g). I don't really like 'near weightless' mice, so anything which has a similar weight should be okay for me.

Also, care for some trip on a train? (psst) Don't tell them that this thread was an excuse as a means to give back to the community. :p

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

EDIT: Train added

EDIT 2: My maximum budget is $100-150, but anything below it is fine.

BUMP and go for the G502 ;)

I currently have a Logitech G502 and other than it being ugly, I really like it. I've been a big fan of Logitech mice for a while, my last three being Logitech. The software is the best if you need it. Some games (console ports) don't support more than three mouse buttons or support rebinding mouse buttons, and the Logitech software is the only software that I've found that works properly.

Take GTA IV for instance. At release you couldn't rebind the mouse buttons, and it didn't support more than 3 mouse buttons. I use the right mouse button for something other than what it defaulted to, and the mouse I had at the time did have software to let you assign keys to mouse buttons, but GTA IV somehow still detected the mouse button in addition to the key press. They later patched the game to support rebindable buttons and extra mouse buttons, but the right button was still hard coded to hang up the phone even if you assigned it to something else in-game. I tried to assign the mouse button to a key in the mouse software, but GTA would still detect the RMB press to hang up the phone. I later bought a Logitech G5, and the Logitech gaming software actually worked. GTA IV would no longer see the RMB and the mouse would only send the key I assigned.

The G5 I had was the first generation with only one thumb button. They later released a 2nd generation with two buttons. When I built a new PC, I bought a Logitech G500 and kept the G5 in use on my old system. There were some problems with the G500. They switched to a laser sensor and it had some weird diagonal tracking issues on certain surfaces. I found the right type of mouse surface to eliminate that though. After a few years the left button began to randomly send double clicks on single clicks, or would "un-click" while holding it down. I got mad and slammed it down on the desk when I was dragging some files around and it un-clicked dropping them in a random location. Oddly enough that fixed it for a long while, but it eventually returned. Each time it started acting up, giving it a good slam on the desk would temporarily fix it, but the time it took before returning grew shorter each time.

I eventually had enough and bought the G502, and so far it's the best mouse I have ever owned. They went back to an optical sensor with the G502 and it's more sensitive and responsive than the laser sensor on the G500. My old G5 is still alive and kicking too on my old system too.

I briefly looked at the G403, and like the G502, it has optional weights, so you can slap in some extra weight if it's too light. It uses the same Logitech gaming software if you need to customize the mouse buttons. I personally prefer wired mice just to not have to deal with batteries.

Nice hearing from someone who has used Logitech mice for a quite long time. Driver-wise, I think Logitech is among the best in terms of compatibility.

G502 and Rival 700 is probably easily the best recommended mice here, have you ever used both of them before?

I've only used the G5, G500 and G502. The G5 and G500 were pretty much the same on the outside. The G502 looks ugly, but I forgot to mention that it is the most comfortable mouse I have ever used, except for the mouse wheel. If they took the mouse wheel from the G500 and put it on the G502, it would be perfect. The G500 had a rubber coating on its mouse wheel, but the G502's wheel is just metal with notches in it. It's not bad, but the G500's wheel just felt better.

I also love the dual mode scroll wheel on it too (the G500 had this as well). There's a button you press which lets the mouse wheel scroll freely. It's very handy when scrolling through documents, web pages, etc, and even games where you use it for zoom. In FPS games where you use it for switching weapons, you can switch it back to the clicky scroll mode.

Logitech MX510 or MX518 are still top of the line. I've been using (the same one) for the last 10 years.
Yes, 10 years, it still works, still looks good. Top quality.

I've been using the Logitech g500/502 and they've both worked well. I also prefer the braided cord over most mice cords.

I have an old-gen R.A.T. 7 for my desktop and mobile R.A.T. for my laptop, but they have their new gen out now. All of them look pretty badass.

I'd recommend a Logitech M510 to just about anybody who wants a wireless mouse.

I got one back in August, and I'm hardly a "mouse connoisseur" (especially since my last few have been the type that come with the computer) but I'm very pleased with it. On top of the standard mouse features and claims of a two-year battery life, it's also got back/forward buttons and horizontal scrolling. The Amazon page says it requires the software, but I think you only actually need it if you want to reprogram the buttons, since it works just fine for me.

My only problem with it so far was that I had to hobble along for a couple of weeks before I could get a new mousepad--I had one of those awful vinyl lenticular ones, and the M510 hated it even more than I did. XD But everything else hated it too, so I was glad to finally be rid of it.

I use the Sharkoon Drakonia. Had it for a 2 years now and it's used on a daily basis and haven't had any problems with it. It's about $40 even though I got mine for $25 on a sale. I've had another Sharkoon mouse before that one for 3 years and haven't had any issues either. Before that I had several Razer mice and they all broke (double click bug) after 6 months, same with the Roccat mouse I had, and cost twice as much as the Sharkoon mice. I know, there's a lot of people who praise Razer products to the heavens and beyond but personally, I would never get another Razer mouse, ever.

I've had my Razer Deathadder since 2013 and it hasn't showed signs of wearing out yet. It's wired, really responsive, not too light or heavy, and I like it a lot. I don't know if it was worth the $60 I paid for it though, I've seen better looking mice for the same price.

150$ for a mouse lul .... I think I can buy like 50ish for that much from the one I'm using .
With all seriousness you can get a good mouse for 20$ at most .

A4 tech is one of those shitty 5$ mouses brands that actually don't suck .
I broke my last one after 3 years of using ....cause lagg ....

Like it boggles my mind tho , when I see The new Razer hamstermaster 1337 420 with flashlight 71buttons , 13 laser colours wireless with batery that last up to 12 minute without one charge and a bottle opener , recommended by the creator of the best hamsterfood for human Doritos, and the best selling piss in a bottle mountain dew ... signs by the legendary cs-go player Boris himself who is rank 1 internationally living in his grandmother basement in sybeia , for only 1750$ and the virginity of your dogs firstborn puppy it kinda makes me want to punch anyone who buys the shit

I use three regularly that I'd recommend to anyone

  • Logitech G600 for MMOs or games that use the number row a lot for switching weapons/skills.
  • Logitech G502 for FPS and most gaming use. I replaced my G9x with it, and I like it. I hold it like the G9x, though.
  • Func MS-3 for everyday use. Not many features, but VERY comfortable for my big hands.

Ones I've used recently that I do NOT recommend

  • Roccat Kone -- comfortable and nice to look out, but the two I had didn't last long.
  • Razer DeathAdder -- cheap garbage, the "happy meal" of mice.
  • Corsair M65. Decent mouse, but very uncomfortable, especially the "ridges" between the various pieces.
  • ThermalTake Level 10. Same issues as the M65

Something like G502 is what I'm looking for, I guess. I feel that having too much buttons like on G600 makes it much harder to differentiate the buttons when in a hurry, whereas big mice like Func MS-3 is probably way too big for my hands.

And I'll keep your warnings in mind, thanks.

I'm building a new PC and buying all kinds of crap because I can, not because I need them... and I'll just say.. Thanks for starting this topic.. So many ideas I'm getting from it.
At present, I think I'm leaning toward the Logitech G502... I've used Logitech devices a lot over the years and never really had issues with them except one wireless mouse that after 2-3 years of being constantly on the go, travelling to two countries, started to double click when it shouldn't...

Other than that, I've always liked the brand...

I was considering the Razer Death Adder Chroma.. but heard too many people complain about Razer products in this thread... as much as I like the way the Deus Ex special edition one looks, I think I'll probably end up sticking with the brand I know and trust :)

Thanks though :D

Yeah, seems unavailable right now. But I'll keep the name around just in case.

Is the mouse plug and play, or is a driver necessary for it to be used?

I believe a driver automatically installed. It has an interface to make adjustments.

Don't buy hybrid mouses with non standard internal battery. I didn't used a G403 but with these type of mouses after certain threshold battery will die and you will have to use it as wired only mouse. Quite often this will happen after ending date of warranty.

If you decide to have a pure wired mouse G502 is most praised mouse I know. If you decide to have a pure wireless mouse I would suggest G602. It uses two AA batteries. When I use non-rechargeable batteries I don't change them for 3 months but when I use my decade old rechargeable batteries I have to recharge them after 2 months.

This seriously made me reconsider from buying a hybrid mouse, to be honest. Seeing that G403 is still a fairly new one (recently released back in September in fact), no one still knows how it would hold out for.

I might consider buying a wired mouse and keep my wireless Rapoo mouse around whenever I need to use a mouse on the go. Thanks for the suggestion.
