Good space RPG?

It's not exactly what you're specifying, but FTL really captures the "space captain" thing. Lots of replay value, certainly can be found for cheap.

Though a bit dated now, especially as Mass Effect came out after it and did a lot of the things better, there is still a charm to Advent RIsing.

Rebel Galaxy, SPAZ 1+2, FTL. If you don't mind that the RPG factor is mostly about the ships.

Freelancer. Although it is extremely difficult to obtain now.

Since you mentioned Mass Effect, I'm going to assume you already played all 3 games. The only other RPGs I can remember are:

• Star Wolves 3: Civil War
• Drox Operative

Few games that are not RPG:

• Alien Isolation
• Dead Space
• Galactic Civilizations trilogy

Uhm… Freelancer and Elite: whateverthelastoneiscalled. You'd have an easier time if you were looking for a simulator or a strategy game (for example, both Imperium Galactica games were just added to GOG).

Maybe Starcraft? Not an rpg of course, but good story

Is gonna be difficult to find another games like KOTOR and ME.

It's not an RPG but u can try STASIS (they recently launched a free prequel of the game named CAYNE) you can try.

(Replying to the Poll) They fired like all of the previous writers and changed the canon of Shepard after his series was done for no good reason. If they want me to be excited about this new Mass Effect then they need to take "Mass Effect" out of the title. Because at this point they've completely lost me on this series.

For a good space-faring RPG I'd suggest Salvation Prophecy. It's was made by one guy and I think it really stands out.
