As the title says, are there any Steam Games that have CD-Keys which can be redeemed on GOG or Vice Versa? for example i just got a S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat Steam Key and i could also redeem it on GOG.. are there any other examples of keys from either storefront activating on the other storefront? I'd love to be able to redeem keys from my already owned games from one platform to the other :-) Lets also make this thread a future reference for all people looking for the same info!

List of games that activate on GOG from Steam as per this page: http://www.gog.com/reclaim

  1. The Witcher 2:Assassination of Kings(Backup copy)
  2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky
  3. S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat
  4. S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyle
  5. Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword - (RU/CS Territories)
  6. Mount & Blade: Warband - (RU/CS Territories)
  7. Eador: Genesis - (RU/CS Territories)

Note: You have to enter the CD-Key found in the 'Links' menu of your game's Steam Library page or in-game and not the Steam key itself!

Well, there's Race the Sun. (You get MP-key that you can redeem for Steam key).

I'm surprised, I thought all GOG games were key free.

drm free, meaning no copy protection. all a key does is 'add the game to your library' so that you can access the download and any associated bonuses.

I know they are DRM free, but I meant what I said about key free. I've never seen a section in the library for a key on any games, so one having a key is surprising.

There are some games with keys but only for multiplayer, like Neverwinter Nights.

The Witcher or The Witcher 2 Steam keys can also be redeemed on GOG. I don't think there are many more, if any.

You are right, Witcher 1-2 Steam keys are redeemable on GOG.com

Also, you can redeem any EA Steam game on Origin.
If you have a physical copy of an EA game, Origin customer support will redeem it for you. And if your physical game is no longer offered on Origin, you get a game for free (I had to pick between Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2, or Dragon Age: Origins)

that works for any ea game?
I have 4 games of them but they are not on origin

It doesn't, there are games that you can't activate on Origin, even on Steam. Just that many can.

I believe so, especially if the game has been removed from the Origin store.

Here's pretty comprehensive thread for the EA Steam/Origin stuff with game-specific instructions:

Some developers will take requests for keys on alternate platforms if you're willing to give them sufficient proof that you already own it. I believe this is the case with the Mount & Blade games.

As convenient as Steam is, I'd love to be able to have as much of my library as possible on GOG as well. GOG's installer approach is better for dealing with lack of internet access, and they take a lot of care to improve compatibility of older games.

You can't redeem The Witcher 3 on GoG if you purchased it on Steam. Not for now, at least.

Do you get a CD key when buying The Witcher 1&2 on steam? You should, no?

Yes.

You'll get both from Steam Client. Use those keys to redeem on GOG page.

As to The Witcher games - GOG keys do not redeem on Steam however, Steam keys do give you a back-up, drm-free copy on GOG.

I was pretty sure this was the case but the GOG key I gave the OP did not redeem on Steam - so it's been tested...

It was never meant to provide Steam keys. The whole point of the promotion was to provide a DRM free backup for those who purchased it elsewhere whilst also increasing GOG's userbase and as such the potential customer base.

Exactly :-)

Not much money in that for GOG though, huh? Since The Witcher series is part of GOG's company, it makes sense to drive traffic to their site with this series.

So I've just purchased Witcher 1&2 on steam, and tried to redeem both here https://www.gog.com/redeem

It worked for Witcher 1 but for Witcher 2 it said "The Code is invalid."

/edit nvm, it worked here https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

Still weird.

(btw. I've bought them today, and it says that the key runs out on 08.09.2015. Don't forget to activate/backup it.)

Yeah. People report a mixed bag here. My Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat keys redeemed successfully but Shadow of Chernobyl gives me a "Code is Invalid". Some can do all 3, some none, and you get the idea.

Open your system registry and follow this path.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC. Check the file labeled: InstallCDKEY

Some people get this key to work, and others (such as myself) have had no luck with it. Do share if you get it to work!

Also, it's worth mentioning that you need to have the game downloaded and installed in order for this to appear in your registry. Just FYI.

As far as i know, and from what i can see on the official website and wikipedia, no Mount&Blade has ever had a retail release and Eador Genesis is a small indie game so i doubt it ever had one either. So no, that's still not entirely true. And as far as i can see activating worked for the majority of people so it's not a luck thing either. Even if you are right, the man has nothing to lose by contacting GOG support :)

I believe you can request an alternate key for other platforms on the TaleWorlds forum, though I would hope that they work with GOG to get the easy reclaim process working for all territories.
