Hi,

I've just discovered that Battle Vs Chess is also called Check Vs Mate apart that Battle Vs Chess seems to be worldwide apart for USA. But here, on SG, it's referenced as Check Vs Mate, which is the US title.

If I want to do a giveaway of that, can I use Check Vs Mate, as I'm living in Europe? Because on the list of games on SG, Battle Vs Chess doesn't exist but Check Vs Mate is.

Thanks for your answers that I'll read tomorrow morning as I'm going to answer the call of my bed saying: "TIME TO GO TO THE SWEET LAND OF DREAMS!".

EDIT: Support told me it's ok to make a giveaway with Check Vs Mate for Battle vs Chess. Besides, Battle Vs Chess isn't in the list AND I don't know why only Check Vs Mate is on it.

Yeah but the question is: can I do a giveaway of Battle Vs Chess under the Check vs Mate title?

I think so - it's the same game after all.

Well, it's my first thought too but I prefer to be sure :)

it's seperate games, i know people who own both games (yeah they are crazy collectors but still)

people that own Check Vs Mate could redeem Battle vs Chess and otherwise.
So you would lock people from your giveaway that should be eligable to redeem Battle Vs Chess, but if you post it as Check Vs Mate it won't show up for them... yeah its crazy but thats the way they go , 2 different app-ids = 2 different games

Well, after asking support, they said I could use the Check Vs Mate title (american title) for Battle Vs Chess (worldwide title).

thats really interesting, though anyone that owns check vs mate won't be able to enter for battle vs chess. but seriously, i know 1 person who is one of the top 3 worldwide collectors which owns both versions of the game... i would just add battle vs chess as an option since those are different games (by steams way to determine different games)

yup, her giveaway ended already. what does it have to do with what i said? is that supposed to be one and only giveaway for this game? aren't we allowed to talk about this until someone else creates a giveaway for it and asks people's opinions on it?

you look sarcastic and i have no idea why. if this is really a problem, i don't see any solution other than adding the said game to the list and asking support to change past giveaways to the proper one.

I'd assume it doesn't matter since it is the same game either way and will be treated thereafter for rules purposes.
On another note I find both titles kinda stupid, sounds like someone tried to be clever with naming and failing horribly.
Also wish they would add stuff like Chessmaster to Steam, that would be awesome. quits rambling

After the game released there was an issue with the name so they changed it. It's like what they did with ORION: Prelude.

Didn't know that there was a problem with ORION: Prelude.

It's the same game called "ORION: Dino Horde" before.

Worth noting:

  • Battle vs Chess has trading cards, where Check vs Mate does not.

They are 2 separate steam IDs, even though the game is in essence the same.

For this reason alone, I believe it may be a problem to give away one game instead of the other.

but they are the same game. just have different names in different regions. who cares about the cards? this is not a card giveaway site. it's a game giveaway site.

Oh, Banana...
I'm talking about the ids! If someone, or something, checks for redeemed ids that could mean trouble.

by trouble if you mean getting blacklisted for something they didn't commit, yeah, people thinking from their asses might think the winner didn't redeem the game. that would be an unfortunate situation.

steamgifts checks automatic for redeeming games, so if you would check Check vs Mate as received but you dont own it, you are screwed

HAHAHAHA. :D so that's why regifters are punished right away.

I think it's probably a bad idea just because users here will report and call out over it.

The title doesn't have similar words, so anyone running to the steam profile to check "Oh, did he activate Battle vs. Chess" won't find it and will assume that the person is breaking rules.
