This game is 8 years old based on a roughly 10 year old engine but actually its still one of the best game in the racing sim genre in terms of realism.
"It is designed to be modified and is used by professional racing teams for driver training and race car development" - so thats how it is

i have an entire Arcade setup for racing games and from gameplay ,dlc spam .apparently 5-10min load in time for ssd,
Here to the core point most people rated it good is the physics?but like i said gameplay wise what i find on youtube idk doesnt seem special rather average for me .

What I have gathered from the professional sim racing community is that game's physics is closest to the best we have for now.
I have the game and there are a lot of problems but the racing is not one of them. You cannot feel the physics and forces in a force feedback wheel while watching a youtube video, you should know that. If you're a casual racer this game is not for you, in other words if you don't play stuff like assetto corsa or ACC or iracing you're probably going to hate this game and that is fine. It's meant to be a simulator more than it wants to be game.

Game isn't perfect but sure as hell beats all other racing simulators from the ps1 - ps3 era

Thanks for the heads up! But I'm still struggling, because of their DLC policy and the base game doesn't seem to have that much content. On the other hand it has one of the best physics...

But there is the workshop where you can get some mods and stuff...

Fair point. It does look like there is a pretty good modder community out there. Really looking for old school open wheel stuff and there is a little to be had there. I also like how many track adds there are

I would not recommend this game without some of the DLC. Is the price justifiable? Yes and no. If you look at it without comparing it you get laser scanned tracks with updated graphics etc.

Looking at what the alternative is I'd say no. You can get assetto corsa and ACC much cheaper on sale and have as much fun with it.

Edit: But base game is cheap now and the DLC goes on sale throughout the year, maybe give the base game a shot and refund if it's not your cup of tea.

WARNING: The UI is the worse thing I have had to use, some base cars and tracks suck. Maybe watch a youtube beginner video to make your life easier

Thank you for your detailed response.

I don't need laser scanned tracks that much. Sure, I am a fan of sim racers, but more important are the cars.

I watched some videos and the graphics aren't that bad in my eyes, but you are right about the UI - but when you got how it works, it shouldn't be that big problem.

You are right, I should try it - especially because of the discount.

Do you know of any way to track and compare Workshop DLC prices the way SteamDB does it for games and regular DLCs?
It's the first time I've seen DLCs done this way instead of through the normal store.

I have found no consistent way to track and compare it and honestly that sucks !! At least workshop mods are easily installed.
I saved a screenshot ingame though, this was their previous sale this year with % off on DLC's:

Edit:
They have a News section on their website and here is a link to the sumersale with the price and % of one of their packs on sale:

Sweet, base game has access to workshop with seemingly good tracks and cars. Can`t wait to give it a try.

I cannot remember why i´ve sent rFactor2 into "not interested" hell, but it´s gotta be significant and lasting, as i still don´t feel like ever touching the franchise again shrugs
