I don't think it's a good idea man...
You know even if you for example only type"www.steamgifts.com/group/SJ7Bu" it still leads you to the same group right?
By the way using group name in the link is very very uncontrollable cus people use different language, Upper and lower cases letters, people use special symbols...and some people will be trying to link you to some virus stuff.
You give people privilege ,part of the people will trying hard to scam with it.That's what happened to the Internet.

they are not private anyway - they appear in poster's profile page visible anyway ;p
Plus the only case I can think of private group wanting their GAs not visible to anyone anytime is if the group's purpose itself is solely to boost CV with fake GAs.

Couple of points to consider.
Groups can change URLs on Steam. If GroupA is renamed to GroupB, it might take days before the data is updated on SteamGifts, because of the strict limitations set by Steam. In the meantime, what happens if a new group is added to the site with the URL GroupA, since it's now free, or what happens if a group in our database changes its URL to GroupA and tries to sync the data first?
One solution would be that if a group is being inserted or updated with a duplicate URL, the site looks up the duplicate group, and updates it first, since it must have a new URL. Of course, if Steam isn't responding, or we reached our limit for requests, then we're stuck in limbo.
Right now you don't have to worry about links being broken, or ending up at the incorrect group if URLs change. The site will update the link to the correct name, so if you visit http://www.steamgifts.com/group/SJ7Bu/wrong-name, you'll still end up at the right destination. I think this is an advantage.

then what about additional ability to check group page like it's now with checking user ID? Let's say http;//www.steamgifts.com/group/ID ? In case group changed their ID aka unique name and it wasn't updated on SG yet it will just return an error, but in all other cases, which I believe will be vast majority it could refer to unique's group page. This way unique pages remain, but users get ability to check groups nonetheless.

Question is.... why is it necessary ?
Aside of being Convenient ... to like a hand full of people i guess .
I dont see a reason why tho , is that necessary ...
Like , you can already find the groups you are in pretty easy
And there is no information that isnt available on the Steam page for the group , that its shown here ...
Also having the 5 symbol code thingy betwen sg page and the group name kinda prevents people from just going on a rampage checking groups for private GA's ... and joining such groups for the sake of hoarding .
Just my 2 cents .

Just an easy example - you see recruitment post for a group. It can not be very detailed or may not have all the details you'd like to know about this group. You go to SG profile of that group and may look for whatever information you feel like to decide whether you'd like to try this group out or not.
As for your second argument - if it's a private group someone who finds it won't be able to enter GAs anyway. And if it's public group he may join it on steam in the first place - until he finds a Steam link he wouldn't be able to find it on SG anyway. So I don't see how it would be possible going on a rampage checking groups for private GA's in any way, shape or form.

Thats.. not a good reason.
Thats your personal opinion ... and for me it makes no sense :)
All the info bout a group , you can find in steam .
In fact , the info provided here is less , compared to steam itself .
So yeah , a GOOD reason ... still w8ing.

it not being a good reason is your personal opinion ;P
On Steam you cannot find a lot of info that may not be important for any other casual group but IS important for Private GA group. Things like how many GAs are then given monthly on avg, what is avggroup GA activity, things that are important for you to evaluate if it's worth for you to join the group. You can see whole history of group GAs and see what king of games are given away there - are these quality games or just shovelware bought cheeply to fukllfill monthly GA, just not on bundle list yet. How many entries does group GAs usually receive, depending on game ofc, so you can predict if what you're planning to give away will you be getting CV, what are other members ratios so you could know what is the group's attitude towards leechers. And probably many more that I cannot think about right now.
You may think none of these is a good reason for you, but that is your personal opinion. It may be a valid option for someone else - and if you don't like it, noone is forcing you to use it, just let ppl who find it usefull use it instead ;)

no, I blacklisted you long time ago (over 2 months). Proof below:
I never blacklist people for having different opinion than me unless they present it in an offensive manner. And well - if someone presents an opinion I do agree with in an offensive manner he will get blacklisted as well.
Oh, and calling people you discuss with "emo fucks" is a very good example of what gets you blacklisted. It's not your opinion, it's your offensive attitude.

its still kinda semi usefull , there are tons of people with wishlist full of stuff they dont want to play .
Making a discussion actively asking what game people want seems far better imo , that way you get the opinion of the active people who actually matter , and not the hoarding scum .

Just a handful? How do you know?
You can't see running GA's, their entries, the contributers, etc. It really helps when deciding to join a closed ratio group.
People goigng on a rampage? How is that? If a person finds an open group with GAs, I don't think it's an issue if he joins... hoarding is a separate topic.

Bad idea - why:
try and follow your own thread link: this http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/uJLmM/
|> gets you to that http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/uJLmM/make-sg-pages-of-steam-groups-easier-to-find
edit: oh anti-lol, should've checked the replies ... cg already responded himself

@1 - Same "Name" - yes, but we are talking about "name" from the group profile link - which must be exclusive for each and every group.
@2 already adressed problem here with possible solution, same as used currently for fiinding user based on their ID
@3 also addresed in comment above, code remains, yet new functionality is there as well ;)

I'd like to bump this thread, and +1 to this zelghadis comment

I want to bump this page with an addition. I don't know how exactly you store correspondence of group on steam to group on SG, but I can suggest it's by <groupID64> (because group name and group link can be changed). You can access (for example) steamgifts group by id64 with link like http://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791432125620/ . So why not make it possible to access group page the same way, so that http://www.steamgifts.com/gid/103582791432125620
would redirect to https://www.steamgifts.com/group/SJ7Bu/steamgifts ?
GroupID64 is possible to find manually, or, even better, it would be possible to make browser extension or user script to add link to sg group page on steam group page (the same way as enhanced steam does for user profile).

The title may be a little confusing, but what I mean is that instead of using a code in a group's page on SG, like this
http://www.steamgifts.com/group/
SJ7Bu/
steamgifts, use only the the name in the steam group link,
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/
steamgifts. This would make is easier to find a group's SG page, otherwise it is only possible if you're in the group, or someone gives you a link (AFAIK). Since (AFAIK) the group name in the link is unique, isn't it?
Edit: Also, those voting for bad idea, will you please elaborate why?
