it fixed DX issue so you lagginng has nothing to do with it - either it's your PC problem, or more likely problem with a torrented game ;) crappy crack or even better it installed you some bitcoin miner :> serves you well for pirating :>

but it doesn't have be correlated. you may have got up to the part of game where it started storing a lot of data in your memory for example and that's why it started to lag. Or bitcoin miner (a lot of cracks, especially chinese ones have hidden miners in them) had to set up properly, now that it did it just mills the shit out of your system to earn creators money off of you :>

whatever the case is, I won't help you with it, because you pirated the game. And I guess the same will go for the majority of community here, sorry ;)

then you just might play it when you can buy it. If you didn't have money for let's say food, water, roof above your ead someone could symphathize - as these are basic needs you need to live, but you don't need GTA V to live.

I still to this day pirate games Im not sure about. Two days ago I bought Prison Architect, which I had pirated last year to see if I'd like it, it was too buggy then, and I wouldve been pissed had I paid for it. But by pirating it, I knew it was a concept I liked, and that later when it was closer to a final product I would buy it. Granted, either you like GTA games or you dont, if you liked any of them after 3, then you'll like the current one. But he says he pirated it to see if his hardware would run it satisfactorialy. I find that to be a justifiable reason. Of course, he could be lying and just is a cheap fuck, but lets give him the benefit of the doubt.

pirating a game to find if it will run on your hardware is rater overdated concept nowadays I'd say. It's not like today our only way of getting info about new video games is by reading magazines - there are shitloads of website articles dedicated to new games performance, especially big heavyly hyped hits. The day of the premiere each game will get a massive performance topic on NeoGAF. Heck there are even whole youtube series/channels dedicated to performance checks. GTA V has been out for a while and there are all the details he may need avaiable already. Witcher 3 has been put for just a day, and there are already deep performance analysis avaiable, as well as easy to check comparisson-tables.

Now take into account the fact that GTA V is a massive download. Game itself weights over 60 GB of data, not to mention cracks, updates, patches etc. That a shitload to torrent just to run a "performance check" when you have all the data it will give you avaiable via quick google search.

So sorry for being cynical, but I highly doubt that the sole reason for OP to download 60gb game torrent, bother to patch, update and crack it was to solely run a performance check he could get with few minutes of googling. Also the excuse "I only pirate to make sure I like it" or "I only pirate to make sure I can run it" and "right after I'm sure I'm going to buy it" is an excuse as old as internet vdeo games piracy itself.

I get what you're saying, and my post was a little sarcastic. I guess what I'm trying to say though, is piracy helps the industry and doesnt hurt it. I know I know, that seems counterintuitive. But let me explain, in my younger days, I pirated EVERYTHING. The companies whose products I stole, didnt lose out on a single penny because back then, I had no pennies to spend. My gaming budget was 0$ per year. But I became a gamer because of all that piracy. Then I grew up, started having an income of my own, started buying games. I used to admin one of the biggest warez sites on the net, over a million unique visitors a day, and this was in the mid 90's. Of all the people who worked on that site with me then, 1 of them now works for Black Tusk Studios, one works for Valve, and the others as a general rule all have become 'responsible' gamers as in we pay for our games now. But I'd argue without our start in piracy none of us wouldve reached the love and passion we have for games and the industy.

ok, fair enough, BUT - the difference here is - you admit you pirated these games to play them, coundn't afford them - we can argue over whether you should pirate them or not, you believe yes, i believe not (yet I would be a hypocrite if I'd say I never pirated a game as an underage child, or a game that wasn't published in my country at all - was happening a lot in 90s and early 00s), we can argue if piracy hurts the sales (I believe yes, because while there are ppl who wouldn't buy the game anyway, there are also ones that would, but why should they if they can get it for free) but the main case is OP claims he pirated it solely for the sake of performance check, not to play it, and well - that i simply call B$ ;) noone downloads over 60GB data, waste several hours probably just to get the data he can get from internet within 5 minutes search ;)

Oh I agree with that part of things, between all the gaming sites, canirunit, and the like, theres really no reason to have to pirate to check if it will run. For the most part though, pirated games no longer support multiplayer, which at least to me, is where all the fun is in modern games. Im ok with someone pirating the campaign of a game, just to get hooked and buy it for multiplayer. But thats me, and I know some games have pirate servers to play on, but those come with griefers, cheaters and the like, and just arent worth the effort imo. I particularly like when devs go out of their way to grief pirates, like that game dev sim that came out a couple years back, where if it was a pirated copy, you would end up with a great game but make no money due to people pirating it. Made me lol so hard.

PS. If you pirated a game in the 90's odds are you got it from me, or easywarez(those losers) lol.(Unless of course you were affil'd with a release group or had access to topsites)

well, I'm kinda 80-90% singleplayer nowadays (spent over 5 years online only playing WoW, realized how much of great SP games I missed and switched to those mainly) so I could pretty much pirate any game I'd like. But as I studied IT and a lot of my friends ended up in software development including game development (heck, even my fiancee works as a QA for software development) it would be pretty shitty of me to pirating something ppl just like those close to me put their countless workhours into ;)

As for griefing pirates, I loved what CDPR did in Witcher 2 :D: They replaced female-model in all of many sex-scenes in the game into an fat-old witch and made these cutscenes unskippable :D: The best part was quite a few Streamers or ppl on various gaming communities showing their "weird bug" pretty much calling themselves out as a pirates to whole community or their viewerbase :D:

Just to add my two cents, not everyone is like you. Some people could easily pay for the games the pirate, but they won't. And if everyone pirated games the devs would get no money at all.

It's clear that:
pirated copy ≠ copy that is not gonna be sold otherwise

But it's not that we have enough data at hand to make a claim that piracy helps the industry.

Apparently someone is mad because this guy just piracy a crappy game, "a old excuse" well i think it's a good excuse in my opinion, not all those videos, etc, are totally true..in fact i'd rather prefer test the game myself than watching on the videos.

I piracy some games too, specially singleplayers ones, why? well my country is fucked up with the economy and we don't use $ here. That's not an excuse :)

This topic should be closed. It's Irrelevant & waste of time. Rockstar has never failed to deliver. so why pirate it. I refuse to pay 60 bucks, will wait till special. so what if i have to wait a year if i must. at least I'll get a even more polished game by then.

Then you should not mark it received
The GA creator can either provide you with the correct game or contact support to change the game of the giveaway with the one he gave you

then mark it as not received, as as it os right now you will get banned in 1 day if mod see this - cause you marked a game as received and you don't own the game and 7 days activation time will pass.

Permalink

What ? I don't think there's a 7 days activation time, you're supposed to have the game in your library the moment you mark it received

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

theorethically yes, but in practice if you report someone for not activating a won game support will reply to you that if he doesn't have it activated after 7 days he will get suspended.

I guess there is some reasoning behind it - maybe your key gets revoked after you mark as received, but as it's still below 7 days GA creator has this extra time to deliver a new key to you.

OR you could wait for Steam Summer Sale (in July most likely) to see a small price drop, around 15-20% I suppose, and you would have around a month and a half to save some money.

PS: Also bear in mind a lot of companies now release crippled pirate versions of their games, your problem might be intentional by Rockstar (can't blame them though)

There are a couple of rumors, one that it starts on May 26th another on July 4th. I think that the end of May is too soon, but I really hope you are right and that next week we have a pleasant surprise!

Edit:

  • 2014 Summer sale started June 19th.
  • 2013 was July 11th.
  • 2012 was July 13th.
  • 2011 was June 30th.
  • 2010 was June 24th.

For gods sake. stop pirating games.

ITT: A lot of people who don't remember what it was like to have video game demos to see if your machine could load and run the latest and greatest game before dropping $60 of your summer lawn mowing money into a game.

When companies want to start putting out demos again, pirating will slow down drastically. At least for PC games. 15 years ago, people pirated because they were cheap and wanted to play a single player offline mode of a new game. Now, it's all about the online achievements and multiplayer. What good is it if you can 100% GTA V if you can't brag to your friends about it and show off your epeen?

Pirating games is wrong, but it's the lesser of two evils imo when you look at what the game market has become. Teaser videos on the game engine, no playable demos, get rid of Beta and release it as Early Access to get a bunch of money. Game companies have become deplorable, they are in one of the ONLY industries where price fixing has been a staple for years, and that's another argument for another day.

In short, don't jump down someone's throat because they pirated a game - He might just be wondering if his old PC with a dual core processor, 4gb RAM and a 9800GT GPU can run something that the manufacture refuses to put out a demo. Jump down their throat if they don't uninstall it, continue to play the pirated game and never invest money in a product they invest time in.

as for downloading a 60GB+ game from torrents for several hours just to run a performnce check: http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/OklUZ3R

Right, there are resources out there. Just like there are for anything, and yet every single day across the world there are people who refuse to read a map when lost or instructions when assembling something.

As a human culture we have the mindset that "If I haven't seen it with my own eyes, I can't trust it". Some people look at say, the charts that have come out for the Witcher and go well shit my machine CAN run it on low settings awesome. "Others look at it and go Well, how do I know that wasn't just done by nvidia to make me go buy a Titan?!?! I bet my machine can run it!"

Also, as far as a game torrent like that taking several hours, I am not sure about your internet but I know with mine a file transfer of that size wouldn't take hours. Maybe 30-45 minutes unless there were absolutely no seeders out there. However, a game at release with high demand will be one of the most seeded items on the internet. The whole argument of "its so big and would take several hours to download" really just depends on how you manage your time and value it, if you don't have $60 to spare (Not everyone does on here, especially a lot of the students and younger generation) then downloading it during dinner or as you sleep may be a better option then spending a week doing every odd job you can think of to get money from your parents. It's all relative really.

Now, this is all coming from a guy who just buys a game and then upgrades his system (I bought a new gfx card just to run Lichdom when it first came out in early access don't ask me why ), if I can't play the game it just motivates me to get off my lazy ass and get what I need to make the game run smooth and at least 40fps usually. I am just saying that, I know quite a few people online and IRL who use pirating for this.

I agree, I think the excuse is used a lot when people ask for help with a pirated game file, but I know from personal experience it isn't always the case.
