Which Hidden Object Game is a good one to start with? (If your suggestion isn't an answer, I'll edit it in)

View Results
9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek
Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden
Clockwork Tales: Of Glass and Ink
Dracula's Legacy
Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek
Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride
Left in the Dark: No One on Board
Lost Lands: The Four Horsemen Collector's Edition
Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart
Queen's Quest: Tower of Darkness
Time Mysteries: Inheritance - Remastered

The one i played a lot was Amazing Adventures: The Forgotten Ruins, but its a DS game. This made my bathroom a more fun place.
I don't think it will help, but i wanted to share :P

Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride was first HOG I had beat. It's nice, sometimes you have to look for stuff really hard and there are few good logical puzzles.

Time Mysteries: Inheritance - Remastered is far simpler than Forsaken Bride and speaking animation of characters is bad xD

I beat 9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek today, it took me 2,5 to do so. But hidden-objects sequences are far easier than these in Forsaken Bride - I haven't been stuck once looking for "this nasty fish, which in the end turns out to be dim drawing on some dark wall" xD

Haven't played in rest.

You eat your dessert first, don't you? Why would you start with the best? It would make the rest of the collection not worth any attention. You'd play them all comparing it to the first. You should save it for last and enjoy the entire meal.

Definitely Grim Legends or Nightmares from the Deep.

For an all-around, polished experience, I recommend Grim Legends 1, Abyss, or Nightmares from the Deep Cursed Heart. Clockwork tales is good too- shorter than the rest, I think.
I would say don't even bother with Time Mysteries 1, unless you want some laughs at the bad production value. It's safe to start at Time Mysteries 2, since the "plot" of TM1 barely has anything to do with the rest of the story.

Nightmare from the Deep & Grim Legends are both very good.

But this was the game that got me hooked:

I'm biased towards Artifex Mundi HoGs but I've heard there are some other that are really good. I agree, Time Mysteries ! are goofy but the I enjoy it anyway >.<

Most of those are very good. Maybe Grim Legends or Nightmares from the Deep. Just don't play Dracula's Legacy and first Time Mysteries first as they're of lower quality than the rest so it might threw you off the genre.

Angelica Weaver: Catch Me When You Can
Castle: Never Judge a Book by its Cover
Mirror Mysteries (for the lulz)
I'm going through Midnight Mysteries nowadays and they are pretty much similar. Angelica Weaver is the best Hidden Object game I've played. (:

Though some players got a "debug problem" that broke the game (Angelica Weaver). I didn't encounter that but buyer beware.. (:

Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart is an awesome HOG
I would also recommend Time Mysteries: Inheritance - Remastered but only if you have Time Mysteries 2 and 3. Actually Time Mysteries is a little bit old and the voice acting is terrible. But the whole saga is excellent as a story.

Would definitely never ever play Dracula's Legacy. Awful.

I've beaten both Grim Legends Forsaken Bride and Dark Arcana: The Carnival (Not in poll) and their both great choices.

Anything developed (not just published) by Artifex Mundi – Nightmares from the Deep has most of the newcomer-friendly features, so that trilogy is a solid pick. Enigmatis is also good, but the first one is quite mediocre, just a small warm-up before the awesome sequel. Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden in itself is excellent, but it is a little more difficult.
Another good start is the Princess Isabella trilogy: it was what started the current format of lightweight point 'n' clicks over six years ago.
Another possible good start is Witch's Pranks: Frog Fortune; or, if you want a really light one that is suitable even for children, Robyn's Quest.
After you try a few of these ones, I'd also suggest trying Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles by Waterlily Games. It has an entirely different formula and totally rewrites the story, but the changes in the HOS mechanics are quite good.
And of course there is my favourite, Brink of Consciousness: Dorian Gray Syndrome. Not just a good HOG, but an incredibly good and exciting thriller.

Well, yeah, but it's also like saying that all FPS games are pretty much the same. From my point of view, the most important thing is the story.

I didn't really want to play any HOGs until I won Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride. It was amazing. I belive, if any game is about to convience you to liek HOGs, this is the one.

Also, you can't go wrong with Artifex Mundi games :)

Artifex Mundi titles are definitely top of the heap for that genre XD
Never liked HOGs much until I played theirs. Now I'm hooked.

The music and visual is extremely high in this one, also it's fully playable and I had fun with this. Why people are hating this? I had more fun that the overvoted nightmares from the deep ...

I found most puzzles trivial and the use for some objects annoying. Didn't like the story either. I did enjoy the music and visuals (I even 100% the game) But I liked Frankenstein more from the same studios.

9 Clues: Secret of Serpent Creek is my fave hidden object game, so I'd have to suggest that one. The sequel, 9 Clues 2: The Ward, was also amazing, even if it did take everything set up from the first game and throw it out the window. The Nightmares from the Deep trilogy are high quality, as well. Really, almost anything from Artifex Mundi is a winner.

Theres one though I would say avoid, and that's Frankenstein: Master of Death. But mostly because it strays from the source material even further than any other Frankenstein-based work and ends up just having a really ridiculous climax.

I'm a big fan of point and click adventure games and I just played my first HOG a few weeks ago. It was Brink of Consciousness: Dorian Gray Syndrome. I found it somewhat easy and I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would. I did not enjoy the bonus chapter though, I thought it was kind of boring and dragged out compared to the main story. If you read the plot and think you would be interested in it, I would recommend it.

I have not played a game from Artifex Mundi yet, but they seem to be rated very high. Your best bet is probably to click on their name in steam, open up the highest rated games they have, read the plots and pick the game that you find the most interesting.

Nightmares from the deep is a bit old and has some bad things like very mad FMV quality or unskippable repeating moments and some minor lack of features like map navigation. I recommend for the first time Grim Legends. It's extremely good game. If you're experienced with HOGs you can go with nightmares from the deep or time mysteries, as those are the old games that doesn't make fun for first time players. That's my opinion.

Pure Hidden. I don't think it's on Steam but well worth searching out. Visually it's miles above any other hidden object game I've ever seen.

I think a lot of these are good ones to start with, I voted for Abyss but would also say Nightmares from the Deep!
