Västerås is my birth city. Västerås is industrial city, i.e. ABB was founded here (a merger between ASEA AB of Sweden and BBC Brown Boveri Ltd. of Baden, Switzerland).
Västerås is one of the oldest cities in Sweden and Northern Europe. The area has been populated since the Nordic Viking Age, before 1000 AD. In the beginning of the 11th century it was the second largest city in Sweden, and by the 12th century had become the seat of the bishop.
Some years ago the municipalities in Västerås had a crazy idea, they wanted to change the city name to a more "international" name, they wanted to get rid of the two pricks over a (ä), i guess they mean the two dots...
The name they considered to adopt was Aros, the old name of Västerås was Västra Aros (West Aros). I wonder why one of the continents in Seven Kingdom is called Westeros...
