One to establish being the friend of the main character, one to establish that he was psychically gifted and the main character was definitely not, and then once at the end to go "Yup, here's the cavalry, your part is over, we've got this now."
Starship Troopers is probably my favorite non-zombie B-movie. I haven't watched it in a good long while, though, and never watched the sequels (No NPH, after all ;P). Maybe I ought hit the series again soon. :)
So what you're saying is, a psychically-gifted Neil Patrick Harris is going to come in and save the day?
