So today's another International day, World Press Freedom Day! And what better way to celebrate the illusion of free journalism than with a themed giveaway? :P
How do you feel about journalism today? Is it indeed unbiased and free or even in the most democratic countries it gets manipulated in certain directions? How important is it to you? What's your "favored" means of news?

I think there is still good unbiased journalism if you look for it. I just think it is a shame that most mainstream media now is controlled by relatively few individuals and is biased according to their agendas. And many people don't look any further for their news.
Also thanks for the giveaway!

Are you insane? There is nothing about journalism that is unbiased or free. All of the news networks in the US for example are owned by the same.. 3 companies or so?

That's why I called it an illusion. However the internet has many news sources that could possibly be unbiased and free though most of those lack in credibility :\

Exactly. :( You can never tell anymore.

In hungary a new government-made news channel reported that their news IS the most watched in the TV. Though they counted in EVERYONE who statistically changed the channel to their news for a single second, and they summed up the number of watchers of their all news programme through the day - it was more than a dozen. So, the number of watchers wasn't even fair speaking about single show, and they added them together - and compared it to other channel's ONE news programme, and they were boasting about the succesful start of a new channel. Sometimes I feel our government gets their ideas from North Korea. ( If the statistics are against you, forge your own statiscitcs!)

Thanks for the giveaway KonOkami !
As for the news, I don't trust it nor do I purposefully watch/read it. Case in point, you'll see a commercial on Sunday talking about a "serial killer that may be in your neighborhood" or "
something
you have in your house that could kill you" or some other sensational andurgent
-sounding information, then they tell you to tune in on Thursday to find out more. The tv news is just designed to sell advertisements.I pick up a paper about once a week for my wife who likes looking for coupons. If there's something I see that peeks my interest in the articles, I MAY read it. TV news shows, when I watch them, I mostly just want to see what the weather is going to be like. If something BIG happens, I'll hear about it on the radio or through friends, etc.

That pretty much sums up my take on the subject. I trust only half of what I hear/read and only read anything if I happen to stumble upon.

You can't trust most news these days, everything is filtered and manipulated by the higher ups ;_;

Here in Italy we have a politician (Silvio Berlusconi) who owns most of the private media, so you may imagine how free is journalism in my country.

You have excellent taste, so thank you!

I take my news from comedy shows, which says a lot I think. Though it also says a lot about how high quality Daily show & Last week tonight represent, especially the latter (though obviously they have a headstart on only producing one show a week).
Thanks for the giveaway!:)

In my country the printed media asked to the Government to charge services like Google News, and in retur they would hide bad news about them. :-/

It's pretty biased, yeah. And that's coming from both (or all) sides.

I think there is still free journalism, but you have to look for, be more cautious, think more yourself, than in past...maybe it's better, whose know ?
Thanks Konami

Thanks so much, KonOkami! :)
Sadly, I don't think journalism (or history books) are unbiased at all, since you always get the slant of the writer/producer in the story.

Thanks for sharing Kon.
There is no journalism, there is only the entirely horrible corporate blob of media.
CNN is more interested in what colour of pants the President wears than what he actually does. Listen to everyone, trust no one, come to your own conclusions.

Thank you! Manipulated news, manipulated news everywhere...

For three great years I got my news from Sorkin. They weren't exactly fresh, but they were stylish and excellent written... Maybe with time I'll come to terms with that loss and will switch to John Oliver

I don't really worry about that. So long as the main facts get delivered.
