Tyrian 2000!
Even though it's old, it still holds up today. Great design and progression.

I don't really like shmups, but Jamestown was nice.

If you enjoyed Jamestown, they just recently released Jamestown+. Same game but with extra ships and extra levels. Also comes with all the content from the original and its DLC.

On arcade machines: Strikers 1945
On PC: divided between Xenon II Megablast and Raptor Call Of The Shadows
Note: I played Xenon II Megablast on a CGA card - black and white at whooping 640x480 resolution. Game was hard for me, yet I completed it. Years later I discovered that the game was much faster, my old 4.77mhz 8088 wasn't able to run it full speed so I basically cheated it through it at half the speed, unknowingly.
Not a hardcore shmup player but I do enjoy them. Danmaku is way off my league, but I always like playing the first level(s) of any shoot-em-up I find before dying a shameful death.
Thank you very much, muchas gracias AlphaCranberries! <3
