(2/14)
People have been vanishing recently, taken to a place that lives on the tongue of trepidation. Camaraderie and community have suffered immensely, pulled apart without goodbyes or consents. Whole streets have become peopleless overnight. And no one dares to talk about it in public. No one dares to speak their mind. All of them fear retribution in the form of a trip to "that" place. Now, it seems that you too have been taken there. Traipsing up the front steps, there's but one rumination that occupies your head: 'Why?' You can think of no answer, as you reach the cathedral's massive double entrance doors.

I have been wanting to try this one myself ever since I had first heard about it. It looks like something I would enjoy the heck out of! But, given my current time constraints, I'll curb my curiosity for a while longer, and give one of you the pleasure of experiencing it first ;)
What's the one horror game that made you appreciate the genre? Doesn't have to be the first one you played.
Mine was Resident Evil 2. I must've been thirteen or fourteen, and one of my friends called me over, saying his parents gave him a new PSX game. That game turned out to be Resident Evil 2. Never heard of it. We sat there, played it for a while, got scared by the Licker, got scared by the arms punching through the boarded-up windows, and laughed at how scared we became. I immediately hunted down my own copy on N64 (which they didn't even sell in my country, and internet stores weren't what they are now) and fell in love with the genre.

Resident Evil 2 gave me a good scare at times, but I think Dead Space made me appreciate atmosphere

thank you man. Answering your question, for me, it was Obscure. I don't really see resident evil games as horror xD

I was 11 when Eternal Darkness came out. I rented it because I found the idea of the sanity system really interesting, but couldn't even make it through the prologue...

I don't play horror games often. If so I prefer hidden object or point and click games with good stroy (mystery, spooky, sherlock-ish). I think the most horror game I play was Dead Space. I played all three games and I really enjoyed the story too.

I don't like horror games. But I beat up Dead Space series and Alan Wake. Not that I like them much

Thanks for giveaway! :)
I don't play horror-only games, not my genre. I don't like to be scared in front my PC.

sanitarium, but it's a horror/terror graphic adventure not survival

I don't play fps so horror genre is not familiar type for me. I only played Dead Space and Neverending Nightmares. I played Dead Space at 3 am in a dark room when i am alone in the house so it was not a happy exprience (i threw my mouse accidently) so i uninstalled game. Neverending though is a recent experience and i played at night too. It was a good game not a jump scare type i can recommend it who is interested in psychological type of game.

Dead Space 3 (Yeah, a probably bad one to start with, but it was my first horror game. Amnesia was the best one I've played (got it recently when it was for free). I also really liked Sunless Sea (it isn't really a horror game but it has this unsettling, Lovecraftian atmosphere).

Silent Hill 1
It is simply made extremely well, especially the staging and camera handling of the scenes.
That said, neither have I finished it nor played much else, that genre just isn't for me.

Penumbra: Black Plague, the second Penumbra game and before they did Amnesia. I don't want to spoil the part, so I'm just being vague about it.
There was one part where having played the first Penumbra game, I knew what to expect and it did happen. But just as suddenly as it happened, it was turned into something unexpected so fast that I was still reacting to the expected part. The timing was excellent, it just left my mouth hanging open for a few moments. Haven't felt like that since or before.
It's not easy to make amazing horror games, so Frictional Games made me appreciate the genre, even more so later with Amnesia.
