Description

I recently re-watched Becket which while not the most historically accurate movie (he wasn't Saxon first of all) is a great showcase of some really tremendous acting from Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton.

Instead of thanks, link me to a classic (pre-1970) movie you enjoy.Especially non-English language films.

I didn't think I'd have to even put this but:Do be a good SGer and bump the thread, eh?

Cool Hand Luke and The Hustler. I'm a sucker for Paul Newman if you haven't noticed.

What we got here is...a failure to communicate. I love CHL, great choice:) I haven't seen the Hustler in a long, long time.

I was watching part of SlapShot the other day, probably my favorite comedy of his.

CHL is a definite classic. I've still yet to try the 50 egg challenge. ;)

I'm ashamed to say that I've eaten 31 hard boiled eggs in 10 mins. Let's just say I felt pretty miserable. That's what Marines do when they bored, really dumb stuff. Also Happy Cake Day!

Not sure if you were aware but you didn't reply to the OP, and also forgot to bump the thread.

I meant to reply to Idiosyncratic.

Sorry for the lack of a bump; I don't usually work my way back specifically unless there's a link to the thread. My apologies.

I'm of two minds here:On the one hand I don't think it's too much to expect that the people entering a private giveaway read and respond to the host's description. It's also not too difficult to simply click the <---- to go one or two pages prior to find the original thread.

On the other hand, it's not my intention to "shame" someone into leaving a giveaway. Feel free to re-enter.

I only replied to Idiosyncratic because CHL is such a great movie and the discussion caught my eye. I otherwise probably wouldn't have commented at all, to be honest. I did my own cake day GA and asked people to leave cute GIFs instead of thanks but I'm certainly not going to berate them if they either A) didn't comment or B) chose to just post a quick "thanks" instead. It's just not my style.

And maybe I'm mistaken but you did edit it afterwards to ask that your thread be bumped, right? I may have a year old account but I've only been actively using the site for a month or so. Didn't realize that the proper SG etiquette for discussed GAs involved bumping the thread, when there's no link back. But like I said, my apologies. Congrats on your one year anniversary.

Hindi:-

don't freaking watch these if you are feeling down :- Devdas , Anand , Pyasa (there won't be enough tissues in your house. I guarantee it)
English..I like all the james Stewart n Aubrey Hepburn movies...& some like it hot

I was in this play in middle school, we watched the movie first but I didn't really fully appreciate it until high school. Amazing work in any case.

Yeah. If you consider that the movie is played in 1 room by 12 men and all they do is talk, it's an amazing one

After a brief googling... There are several alleged streams behind the "create a free account" (which may translate to "gimme your credit card number, we won't charge you, we swear!") wall. I can't say if they are legit anyway, as I'm too lazy to try.

À bout de souffle
Les quatre cents coups
Rashômon
Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo

Sadly we had no good "made in Spain" movies until the 70s (Cría cuervos, El espíritu de la colmena, El bosque del lobo)

Wow, some really great choices there. Godard, Kurosawa and Truffaut are all geniuses, imho.I've never really been a big western fan, except the modern ones. I don't really know why...although I like High Noon.

Chech out the samourai

It's a 60s french film about a hitman, it's pretty cool.

I also watched A bridge too far a few weeks ago. It's a long one (about 3 hours long) but has some great battle scenes in it and has a ton of famous actors in it

EDIT: Also, Casablanca is ridiculously good, it's one of my all time favorites

Gonna agree about both ABTF and Casablanca, though my favorite Bogie film is still The Big Sleep. He and Bacall are just magnificent in that one.

Very true, I love the snappy dialog between them in that. Have you seen Double Indemnity? That's another noir film with really great chemistry between the main actor/actress

Yes! That's the one with Fred MacMurray, who went on to be mostly known as a "Disney Dad" iirc. I actually watched that in a college film studies class and it's part of what got me into noir in general.

Unrelated but one of my absolute favorite neo-noir films is LA Confidental. Supremely recommended(as is the author of the book, James Ellroy, actually).

It's not 1950s without this baby.
And my all time personal favourite, it's a Malaysian movie, real old, with great actors. Especially the guy playing as the head bandit, P. Ramlee (he's like the local John Wayne here lol).

EDIT: And this one, feel bad without listing it since I watched it like hundreds of times since I was a kid till today.

Another Seven Samurai fan. Don't you think it's a shame that after all this time there still isn't a video game based on the film?

"Based loosely on the story of Ali Baba from 1001 Arabian Nights, the film is occasionally self-referential and contains elements of anarchic comedy, burlesque comedy and farce." That sounds really, really good. I'll have to track down a copy, thanks for posting this:)

Actually there is a PS2 game based on it, aptly called Seven Samurai 20XX. Not a good game tho, played it many years before.

And glad you like the Ali Baba Bujang Lapok one! (Bujang Lapok means Old-fashioned Bachelors. It's actually from a line of Bujang Lapok series, and this is one of their spin-off.)

I just figure with all the different genres and the general popularity of samurai-based games they could do something awesome by now.
