The live action film, or the anime? Assuming the latter:
The anime is gorgeous, has strong narrative, and strong characters;
But (and it's been a long time since I watched it, so just going off my vague recollections) it has some pacing and flow issues, and, as I recall, skimps on some of the details from the manga, so feels a bit vague or disconnected at points. But none of that prevents the anime from being solid-
If you don't mind [war genre] content, it's an excellent anime to watch.
Besides, it's worth watching the series just so you can watch the parody after, it's a hilarious in-joke mockery of the show.
