For all those that have helped me with my problem. While I won't reroll if you didn't, I would like it if you didn't enter if you didn't help.

out of curiosity i've been checking this
since the command is something like steam://friends/joinchat/10358279143221... and it has an url format, you could try something like adding in the .bashrc or maybe other script that runs on startup a command that opens that url. maybe lynx could work. you could also create tabs on firefox, one for each chat and resume session at startup (its ugly i know). you could check man pages of at or crontab. not on linux right now to check. edit: probably the steam executable can be also invoked from a script with the steam://friends... you like; that would be the best probably

The catch with the firefox method is I have to spend a perfectly good browser just to use it. Considering it's my only browser in Linux, I wouldn't want that method. And I most certainly don't have all the free space I need in Linux to do everything.

Already have this but thanks!
Also, I'm far too noobish at Linux to be able to help, but I just downloaded Ubuntu, so if I decide to keep it around, I'll probably need the same help you do :p

Try "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" on the terminal, usually that fix most of the problems
that command sync and update all the packages on your linux os

That doesn't answer my question at all.
