One of the first football matches I can remember, Borussia crushed favourites Werder Bremen 4:1 in the German Cup Final 1989 in Berlin. The whole city was crowded in black and yellow and a new club legend was born in "Nobby" Dickel who scored two goals and had to retire soon after due to injury.

Is it the first football match you can remember in general (like seeing it on tv) or first that you remember being on (you know, on stadium)?

Sadly, I just watched it on TV as I was only five years old, but I think it's really the first football match I can remember.
A few years later, I was lucky enough to get tickets for the German Cup Final regularly (I saw eight finals from 1996 to 2005), but I never saw Borussia play in Berlin yet. Nowadays it's nearly impossible to get tickets for this game, sadly.
My first match I watched on stadium was Hamburg - Cologne in 1993:

I think first matches I can remember are from France WC in '98. Especially final. I was seven years old then.
Fun facy: the first match I was on was in polish second league, when I was... hmmm... honestly, I don't remember ;/ I think I was around 12 years old maybe. I was on vacations at my uncle and aunt and he took me for a match. I still remember how friendly people was and how stadium reacted when local team Szczakowianka Jaworzno (nice name, right? :D) scored 4 goals agains theoretically much stronger opponent :)

Never heard this team's name before, but Wiki told me they're playing at a pretty low level now. :-D
I was two times in Poland watching football (European QF Germany-Greece 2012 in Gdansk and last Octobers' qualifier in Warsaw) and each time it was a blast. I especially loved the atmosphere in Warsaw despite Germany's loss. ;)

Yeah, they had some problems with Polish Football Federation. Too long to talk about it :P
Yeah, Warsaw is great. My hometown :D It's nice to hear things like that from a foreign dude :D
I have a feeling this might sound weird, but my english skills and current state don't let me say it in other words :P
