From SG guidelines:
Entering #5: We encourage users to write comments thanking the giveaway creator for their generosity, although this is not required.
My additional take: Make sure to always read giveaway descriptions. Some giveaway creators specifically ask users to not say thanks unless they win, trying to reduce the amount of notifications they get (it can be a lot for those who create many giveaways). Also avoid using auto-entry scripts, and specifically ones that automatic insert comments. An auto-inserted "thanks" may get you blacklisted. Needless to say, writing non-generic comments is very appreciated by most giveaway creators.

Thanks :))

I always read the description of a GA, though if there isn't a specific course requested I might not comment at all. BUT I always thank the creator if I win a game.
I played the first own and liked it, so... thanks for the game :-)

You're doing things right, which is one of the reasons why you're on my whitelist :-)

I like your take on this rule, I believe the same thing.

Nah, don't tell people to read the descriptions. If they won't do that, there will be more hiden GAs for me to enter :P
But seriously, it's somehow sad when you try to create a description, ask for something, spend time to format it and in the end you have 50 entries and 5 comments -.-

Sad, but that's reality. The situation is typically much better in whitelist giveaways.
What people are missing is that GAs with descriptions are not a burden, but an opportunity for discussion. Those who use auto-entry scripts are missing a large part of the fun.

Thank you very much!
