Did you know that the original release of this game game with burnt paper that made the box smell bad and caused a lot of complaints?

The reason for that was because the good folks at Bethesda got a nice stack of freshly printed maps to include in the box, but someone working on the game thought the maps looked too pristine and nice, so they went out into the parking lot with a blowtorch to singe the edges of all the maps in order to make them look more damaged and old. This was in retrospect not a very good idea as the burnt edges of the map ended up crumbling and covering everything in the box, and also made it smelly, so Bethesda ended up getting a lot of angry emails about it.
