Description

V

Somehow I thought I already gave this away, but after checking it seems that giveaway was for Princess Maker 2 Refine, which is different, I guess. If I'd kept that one for myself, I could have installed it and forgot to play it, but instead you get to install it and forget to play it! Cool!

I'd ask a question here but ... Oh, ok, I'll ask a question.

Umm...

Aha, here we go! Did you ever try to make a puzzle, only it was so easy nobody even noticed it was a puzzle? Yeah.

I recently read about the "steamground" site. Mountains of cheap Steam games for all your +1 needs, straight from the "developers" without any grey market / stolen keys / whatever.

Except they don't like paypal. So I tried with a credit card, only to hit the wall entitled Verified by Visa. It's the right password, so why doesn't it work? I dunno. It seems to be doing something every ten seconds, but I'm not getting any keys so I make a new tab and try again. Still no luck. After half an hour or so I try yet again, and get the same big box of nothing. Umm, what gives? Did they take my money? Do they even want my money? Maybe you have to be in Russia to buy anything?

Quite honestly, I have run flat up against a wall.
Or, a gate, I should say. The thing just won't budge.
No matter how long I wait. And, oh, have I waited!

So what's the best part of the story? A few hours later I check back. Somehow all the steamground purchases went through. :( So now I have three identical piles of cheap garbage. Which means....

Initiate phase one. Power up the crap cannon. :)

Will a precious bot redeem this crappy key before you do, human? Let's find out!

Good luck! :)

Hmmm ... looks a little short on bewbs -- content ... I meant "content"!

Maybe there's a patch for boobies or something? I'm too lazy to check since I'd have to buy the game first, and it's not cheap enough yet... It's on my wishlist for the Summer Sale, though...

Not sure I'd call it a question of difficulty, exactly... :(

Whether because of bots, browser addons, one-click enter everything, can't read English, who knows? I'd guess only 5%-10% of people even see giveaway descriptions. :(

It's especially obvious when you create several public giveaways simultaneously, all those guys entering blam! Glad I'm giving some clowns the opportunity to sell a few more trading cards...

Oh well, that's just more good stuff for the humans... :)

Good luck! :)

I generally dont make any private / puzzle gas. well one or two private ones on very rare occasion. a few group ones and the rest simple public on my level. im lacking the idea for puzzles either, already enough problems solving the most ones.

I've seen people make crossword puzzles, guess that's something like a puzzle, sorta. Probably doesn't require any ideas either, just a picture. Seems too easy, though... :) Maybe I'm not quite lazy enough for that... :)

I'm generally so poor at solving puzzles that the very idea of creating one of my own makes me uncomfortable ;)!

Btw thanks for the various boobie games :))! This serie seems to be a bit more serious than say the Sakura ones though.

That might make it fun though, make one and find out how easy it is... :)

Hmmm, I haven't played any Princess Maker games, but I think it would be difficult for them to be less serious than the Sakura junk... :) I wonder if it's anything like Long Live The Queen, which I've only played an hour or so... :(

You ever see a puzzle that was so easy you just couldn't actually "see" it??
I sure have... .. veeeery recently even... . . . i think. . ¯L( ;) )../¯

Yeah, guess I know what you mean... :)

I've been saving up things for a puzzle for, hmm, no I don't even want to check how long it's been. Couple years?

Recently I made some little attempts to see if anyone would catch on without hints, and the answer is no, nobody's going to figure it out. So now I'm a bit stuck, have lots of bundle leftovers to use for puzzle pieces, but don't want to spend all the time making giveaways nobody's going to find. Or maybe i'm just lazy, not sure. :)

Good luck! :)

I can't remember how to hide stuff in the source here, something to do with the []() link making thing I guess, but I'm just too lazy to fiddle around with it any more. Should have written myself a note or something. :)

Oh, hey, I wonder if it's explained in this old thing? Looks like I'm even too lazy to read it. :)

Ouch! :( Sorry...

Usually out of habit I do a control-a + control-c before hitting the button, just in case. :) I think there's even a browser addon to do that for you automatically, but I forget who mentioned that. Never took a look myself, but it sounds like it might be a life-saver the one time you need it. :)

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the giveaway :) I don't know if a bot got the key yet, because I already own the game (AK).

None of my credit cards support 3D-Secure (Verified by Visa, etc) except for my Amex card, which is not accepted by Steamground. I bought a couple of their bundles using paypal, but there are about 30 more games I don't own that are in the build-a-bundle. I might try to get some bitcoin and buy with that, though I've never messed with it before and it seems complicated.

I've hidden some puzzles without point it out and nobody noticed... :P

I dunno, was hoping someone would mention using the key, but I should've remembered nobody ever does... Oh well; it's not like it was doing me any good to keep it. :)

With all the credit card frustration I was tempted to get some bitcoins as well, but I wouldn't know where to start with that stuff so I let that idea die. :)

I do still have an old password-protected rar file with the bitcoin money I got from mining with my 5870 video card, back when you could actually do that. Unfortunately I don't know how much money, since I forgot the password. :(

When I saw how much bitcoins are worth today I felt so dumb, think they were only $20 back then... :( It was fun in some vaguely high-tech future way, and the coins were worth more than the higher electric bill cost, but I didn't like the added heat and noise so I stopped. If I ever get a time machine I'll tell myself to just put the machine in the basement, keep mining and when you do finally stop, write down the password... :)

I used to use that "sg++" tag feature to keep track of puzzle makers, so I'd know to read carefully every time they had a forum thing. :) But some update killed all the tags, and I didn't have the info backed up anywhere. :( Oh well. :)

Good luck! :)

Interesting, did you give a hint, or people just knew to look for it? I never remembered to look for that sort of thing, or any image-manipulation stuff, never had a clue about any of it. If you needed to use photoshop to find it, I wasn't going to find it. :)

Oh, and text added to the end of a zip/rar/whatever file, I always forgot to look for that. :(

Good luck! :)

Yeah, that was my thought as well... :)

I guess a community of developers figured out how to profit from greenlight, even if nobody ever plays your game... :) Speaking from experience, the +1 people will buy anything if it's cheap enough, especially if it has trading cards... :)

Oh, and if you like accumulating precious removed games a lot of this junk seems to disappear from the Steam store on a regular basis... :)

As for the steamground site itself, it seems their payment processor Oplata is legit, but it's the first time I'd used them. Maybe it's more popular in Russia or something? No clue at all...

Good luck! :)

I've played the Princess Maker 2 a lot when I was younger, I liked Little Witch Romanesque because it reminded a little of it (with all these tycoon features and stuff, too bad it has less action the PM2), but I've never played the first one, so I'm quite curious about it. :)

I remember such issue happening to me on Humble Bundle, I've tried purchasing a bundle 3-4 times, both ended in a certain error, a few hours later I've received those 3-4 purchase confirmations by e-mail (I thought it was limited to 2 bundles per user).

Ahh, I keep forgetting about that game... :( So the Princess Maker series is similar?

So you'd keep notes or something as you play? I'd never be able to remember all the different stuff I'd need to do... :)

Hmm, you play once and learn how everything works, then you play again trying for a specific ending? Guess I'll find out if the Princess Maker games are ever in a bundle... :)

Hopefully it wasn't one of those $30 bundles... :)

Puzzles? Why would I make puzzles? I'm way too lazy to bother with creating one, I'd rather go with the mundane link for people who read instead if I want a game given to someone who truly wants it.

I don't like puzzles myself, it's too much effort and frustration just solving them for a potential reward.

It's especially frustrating when I'm convinced there's something hidden right under my nose, but can't find it. You're hiding something, aren't you?

Well, I don't know if it's true, but I've heard there are some scripts/addons/whatevers that follow links in giveaway descriptions to find other giveaways... Guess it would be cool to get them caught in an infinite loop but I'm too lazy to think of how you'd do that... :)

I've seen the results of having links in plain sight in the forum, though. People just enter everything, they don't read a word...

Well, everyone likes different things... :) I'm too lazy for puzzles any more, but for some people, the effort and the frustration of a puzzle is the reward... :)

Good luck! :)

To be honest I think I never tried to make a puzzle ._. someway I feel boring now, ehh I'll survive.

Princess Maker, I remember playing a ton of Princess Maker 2 when I was still young, some friend gave me a copy on a floppy disk, actually enjoyed it and played a few times, was one of my games to play when bored or doing nothing better. I actually may still have a copy of that on my dosbox folder ._.
Still I've get pretty curious when I seen that on Steam, probably no real reason to play it when there's PM2 on steam too, but I supose it's one of those we get just to say "Hey I did play that once" and maybe even complement with a "It did not even suck", or just install and forget forever to play.................

Oh well... :) Maybe puzzles are out of fashion, though... :)

I never played any Princess Maker game, but I have bought a lot of games for nostalgia, games I remember playing, and thinking hmm, it might be fun to play again... But despite several attempts, somehow I never manage to get back into them... :( Sometimes I play for an hour or so, and sometimes I don't even manage that much... Guess it would be cheaper to wait for a bundle... :)

Good luck! :)

Yeah, I hate my life for buying that $2 hungry bot bundle just to see same games and even more included in a better bundle half the price on bundlestars! not to mention if you bought it with paypal, the price was even higher..

Also some of the games on that site are already removed from the steam store.. Dunno, I think most of them have less value than their 5 cent trading cards and looking at how they are sold, even the developer himself must think that way.

Yeah, seems like there's weird stuff going on with these crappy bundle games... All the same garbage turns up at dailyindiegame, indie gala, steamground, plus whatever other sites I haven't discovered... And the prices are so low, I'm not sure the developers earn enough to buy a pizza... Wonder if greenlight disappearing means even more dead bundle sites in the future... Hope I remember to get all my keys before it's too late... :)

I think sometimes removed games can be worth more than ordinary games, at least to the removed game collecting clowns... :) Some of that junk disappears before you have time to buy it... :)

Good luck! :)

Ah right good thing you reminded me.. We gotta get those keys.. Hopefully IG and groupees won't die.
I don't know how they earn money either. If they are selling the games for 4 cents.. can't even be worth the greenlight submission fee.

When the greenlight is gone, the alternative shouldn't be as bad as people are expecting it to be in my opinion. You know.. steam is also making money from those games, cards etc they can't make it too hard for the small devs.
If that means less in quantity but much better in quality releases and less bundles monthly, I am ok with that. Tbh it is getting hard to keep track of all new bundles lately, I was wondering how things will slow down..

Well a garbage class removed game you already redeemed, if you bought for card profits is worth nothing :D
If you still have the unredeemed key.. hmm might be worth something for a trader, I am usually too lazy to do the trading tho, esp if it is a key you are trying to trade...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I didn't grab my unused keys from Indie Royale or Onemorebundle or some other places I forgot about... :( Still sitting in my list, mocking me... :(

I think it would be great if the new non-greenlight eliminated all the garbage tier games from the store, but as long as it's profitable people will keep doing it... :)

I wonder if Valve would ever divulge what percentage of games being "played" were actually installed. For big new games, I'd guess 90% or so - feels like card idlers aren't very common out in the real world, so to speak... But for a 4 cent steamground junk, I'd guess 0.001%... :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that new "Valve no longer has a business relationship with the developer" thing - but aren't cards from ordinary removed games still marketable? Like, where the publisher decides to stops selling it, but they weren't kicked out of Steam?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not sure if they have the stats for "installed", but maybe they keep track of "downloaded", downloaded stat wouldn't be completely accurate tho, some people can just download the game from somewhere else or copy/paste the download folder from another pc etc. Most likely, we won't ever get that info from valve, unless you have some close friend/relative etc working for valve? :D

Guess so, I don't know the details much better than you do. As for the steamground junk, they were removed (or Banned by Steam is the right word) for getting involved in greenlight boosting, fake reviews etc. so it is a different case. If the removal is related to the decision of the publisher because of some licensing disagreement or something, cards will still be marketable I guess.

No Valve friends, unfortunately... :( I would have asked for some help to get my stupid NBA 2K9 game installed... :) But I'd love to know how many people are idling vs. playing, just for fun... :)

It's easy to see on the "Friends who play X" page who's doing it, but that friend list is full of Steamgifts people, who you would expect to know about it... :) I wonder how many ordinary people do... :) But maybe ordinary people don't buy all the crappy bundles... :)

I've got some cards I can't sell now, but I guess STM bots will have trades for everything, eventually... :) Guess I'll make badges and dump the rest somehow... :)

I thought there may have been a puzzle (with there being a I, II, III, IV, and V) on each giveaway, but beyond that I couldn't see anything puzzle-related except for the partical keys at the bottom of each description (which was probably part of the puzzle, lol).

Now that it is over, would you be able to tell me how to solve this particular puzzle?:)

Well, you're right, it was the keys. I didn't just drop five keys at random, I had to find five keys that would point to the hidden giveaway... :) And only three of them were actually from steamground, but if I started explaining things it would be too obvious something was going on... :)

If you haven't already, for steamgifts puzzles in general check this thing.

For this specific "puzzle" here is an explanation, but I think this one's not tricky enough to be called a puzzle... :) Oh well... :)

Oh, someone accidentally made a comment in one of the giveaways that gave a big hint, something about lower-case ascii, but they didn't notice they were spoiling anything. :)
