Do you only collect them or also fight with them? In my childhood I was hyped for them when I saw them at my colleague house but when my parents saw the prices they decided that wasn't hobby for me. Assuming that I would probably would bored by it after few months, and they would just stay on shelfes to collect dust on I have to thank my parents.
I got it into very early on - a lot of my armies are very old models that were comparatively cheap. Also I think the game was a lot more fun and less competitive before the internet and people arguing about the best army lists and so forth...
I'm honestly not sure it is a game that I would recommend anyone getting into now. But I still like painting the models!
Before the internet people just played armies that they thought were fun and it was fun! And also GW didn't mind people fielding vehicles made from cardboard and old plastic containers!
Now if you don't field the army that won the last big tournament then kids call your army 'shit tier'. And if you do field that army then nobody will play against you because it is 'broken'. And also if you do make an army that can win things then after spending a lot of time and money it gets 'nerfed' in the next update.
I mostly just meet up with old friends from time to time and play huge games that last a whole weekend punctuated by visits to the pub.
I did have fun a few years back when the local store had a giant 'all you can bring' orks vs space marines battle. Things were looking grim for the orks until I almost doubled their forces with more than 20 years of accumulated WAAAGH!!! Including squiggoths and other overkill forge world models capable of trampling entire standard space marine armies all on their own...
Do they made a 'pro' tournaments for this? I feel like all that 'pro' thing destroyed many things that was meant to bring joy. You can't just play a game, because someone insults you, your incompetence will lower his ranking! You want to have fun with your cards? What a waste of time noob, I only play serious to check myslefl against other serious players!
Also: it gets 'nerfed' in the next update. After all, it's all about money, right? ;/
Still, it sound great to hear that you have group of friends, just to enjoy your game, I belive this is what this kind of activites should be about. And, as far as I don't really know much about this kind of battles, I would love your war with Space Marines. It sounds epic!

Making models and painting them is always fun. I tried to do it when I was younger. I honestly don't remember why I stopped...
And yeah, I can only imagine flaw wars on forums, with fanboys arguing about armies and specific units.
