So SpaceX has finally managed to land the Falcon 9 rocket onto a drone barge, which is far more difficult than landing on flat land. Why would this be desirable over just landing on land? Fuel consumption reasons. SpaceX estimates that only half of all missions would have enough fuel to land on land, so being able to recover and reuse rockets that would otherwise sink to the bottom of the ocean should lead to some serious savings for SpaceX.
Also, the onboard view of the landing is really cool.

Its because the rocket is fired out over the ocean from the cape so there is not enough fuel to turn all the way round and come back to land. Pretty crazy he was able to finally pull it off.
