Do you believe in predestination? That there is a book somewhere with all about our future written inside and regardless of what we do, it is already there, so it will be nothing new to the book. I personally am deeply into philoshopy and want to write an article about it but I am too lazy for that. So to put it short, yeah, it does make sense in certain aspects.

Nope, I think it is just another excuse for people to not take responsibility for their actions and the consequences. People come up with all kinds of lies to say "It wasn't me!"

True, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't a thing like predestination. Or does it?

In my opinion fate and God are part of the excuses, so no, there would not be anything like predestination.

I agree. Especially God, and in the same train of thought, religion-based fate notion is being used as an excuse too often. But have you thought about it in a different way? That life is a simulation? We are just the characters of a Sims game, our future actions are already known and directed accordingly. With each certain development in human society, comes a DLC pack.

And who is controlling all that if there is no God? Aliums? Extra-dimensional beings?

I'm pretty sure we don't know jack-shit about our existence or our place in this universe.........

What rongey420 said, plus I don't see any reason to believe in predestination. What evidence is there to that conclusion?

Sometimes it helps feel like there's an explanation to random or bad things, but hard to figure free will and choice is essentially moot.

Nope, not in any supernatural sense. But we are the product of all that came before us and everything that happened everywhere in the universe, leading up to this moment right now. Billions of years have passed, billions of people have lived and died, all so I can enter this giveaway right now.

Ah, wanted to recommend that movie. It was very enjoyable. So +1!

As for your question - a book sounds like rather weird notion. Why a book? Do you think human language is somehow woven into the fabric of the universe? Do you mean a holy book? You can get a predestination with a deterministic universe (when you have full knowledge of all the original states of matter/energy) but quantum physics with its "everything is a probability" theorem makes it a difficult option to lean on.

There's also the notion of Eternal Recurrence from Nietzsche (and others) - an infinite universe which expands from a single points (big bang) and collapse into the same single point (big crunch) for eternity may produce the same results each time. Which is kind of depressing since every mistake you've done in life will be echoed forever by this thought.

Anyway, it's a fun and confusing thing to think about.

Thank you for your opinions. The book is just a metaphor here, you know, as it is in most of the cases called "your actions are written down". You are right about the scientific approach, on the other hand, this would rather be a metaphysical thing, I believe.

The thoughts of Nietzsche are not new to me, I find his ideas too pessimistic in general. That makes me feel skeptical about his theories.
