What's wrong with being thanked?

Fills my message feed. I prefer to be able to find any replies to things I've posted on the forum, or any legitimate questions on my GAs without having to scroll through a lot of nigh identical messages.

Yet you leave exactly identical messages to other people to spam their inboxes just the same? You of all people should know better. I just don't see the need to be rude to people who are just being grateful and polite. You do a giveaway, you're gonna get thank you messages. Thinking you can avoid it is like walking out in the rain without wanting to get wet. Not gonna happen.

The difference here is that they are not getting a long list of identical messages, they are getting one message.
And one would think that people would respect the people who give them free stuff enough as to respect a simple wish that results in less work for them. I find that to be a bit rude.

Again, even if you find it rude, doing the same thing back to them is just as bad if not worse since you're aware of it. And you know not everyone reads those descriptions. With how many giveaways people enter a day it's a surprise they even ready what's being given away! It's easier to just put in in the description and if people DO respond with a polite thanks, just let it go. That way you won't get them replying to your copy pasted spam reply and thus actually making your problem even worse. Or stop giving stuff away. Maybe make it a high contributor level so that only people who are truly active and probably read the descriptions can enter and that'll help much more. Or just do what all the other pissed off people do and blacklist people that went against your wishes. You have more effective options here.

I'm not doing the exact same thing in return, as I am A: not doing something that was explicitly asked of me not to do, and B: Not filling their inbox with identical messages. Every person is only getting a single message. With a bit of luck these people will in the future actually read the description as there are people who do blacklist everyone who copy-pastes "thanks", so that way they can at least avoid getting blacklisted for that reason.

And yeah, I could start blacklisting people over minor offenses, but that would be just that, blacklisting someone for a minor offense. But I would much rather inform people about the fact that they are doing something wrong before I blacklist them. Repeat offenders might find themselves on my blacklist though.
And yes I could stop giving away stuff, or only give away stuff to high level people, but would that actually be a better option? Would that not just be punishing everyone for the fault of a handful of people?

So if it's not a big deal, why bother copy pasting a reply to everyone? If you don't care then you wouldn't need it in the description and certainly wouldn't do the generic replies you didn't want yourself. It's not exactly the same, but it's about the same. It's not like one person is sending you a bunch of these, it's individual people sending you one message at a time, which is what you're doing in return to a bunch of individual people. And with all the other giveaways they join, everyone that replies with a generic comment will add up to spam in their own box. Maybe they don't want that either. But you don't see people entering and leaving a comment asking others not to spam "you're welcome" replies. It's just about being polite. You might not like people thanking you, and you might find it generic for people to be grateful, but don't treat it as if they've somehow wronged you for thanking you just because they didn't have the time to read every single description in the hundreds of giveaways they enter. Blacklisting would be punishment, but upping the contributor level would just be rewarding people for giving away more games. Or whitelist the people that DID read the description. And then you can do whitelist giveaways that will be filled with the kind of people you want. And hey, you don't HAVE to give anything away. Doing that is totally your choice, you don't owe anyone anything so not doing anymore giveaways isn't a punishment because no one is being promised anything. It's just a nice thing to do. Which is why if you're going to be nice enough to give someone a free game, you should be nice enough to accept their gratitude, regardless of how generic it may seem or the fact that there's not a better filtering system on this site for messages. I think you're putting the blame on the wrong people. But obviously you're just going to do whatever you were going to do anyway no matter what I say so it's probably just as much a waste of time bringing these things up to you as it is for you to scold people in the comments.

If they don't want this, then they should bloody well read the description of the GA. It's a small wish from the GA creator, and it's really not an uncommon one. Why not show that much respect to whoever is kind enough to give you free stuff? And if you're entering to many GAs that you can't find enough time to glance at the descriptions, it probably means that you're just entering GAs for the sake of entering GAs, and not because you think the games look interesting.

So if it's not a big deal, why bother copy pasting a reply to everyone?

Here I suspect that you're actively trying to twist my words. While it's not a big deal, it's deal "a deal", it's still annoying, in particular when you have 20+ GAs going on at once (which I've had in the past).

Or whitelist the people that DID read the description. And then you can do whitelist giveaways that will be filled with the kind of people you want.
I do have a whitelist, but whitelisting people for just reading a description would devalue the whitelist.

Blacklisting would be punishment, but upping the contributor level would just be rewarding people for giving away more games.

Upping the contributor values a lot would also result in GAs just being something for people who already have the disposable income to just buy the games. That would make this site one big circle jerk.

When there are bundles, tons of people get those bundles, and many of them are giving away the same game. So if someone is interested in one game in that bundle that can already add up to a lot of giveaways to enter. At least they were polite enough to take the time to thank the giver at all since they're too busy to read the description. Sure, some people are lazy and yes, people use programs to do it for them a lot of the time, but if any of them are the case, they probably aren't going to change. If they didn't bother reading the description, what are the chances they'll even read those replies either? You posting a copy pasted generic reply to everyone is the same principle thing you hate and it's more just an excuse for you to vent than to actually teach anyone anything. I mean, I don't like it when people do the +1 thing on my YouTube comments since I get a notification every single time, but I don't tell people not to hit the plus button just so I don't have to deal with it and then personally message everyone that does it. to "teach them a lesson" in how annoying it is. I just let it happen and deal with it. If you have the time to reply to everyone here, and also to keep this up with me, then you can take a couple minutes to sift through "generic" gratitude on your giveaways. And maybe the higher contributor level isn't what you want to do, but it'd help since those are all real people presumably with the time to read descriptions and there'd be less people in the giveaways to deal with overall. You can always do the whitelist idea instead since they can be any level.

So- The court magician is the necromancer, he comes back to life but we don't know it, he sics a dragon on us, then after we defeat it, he reanimates the dragon and rides in on it in the final fight against him?
