If this was a real redshirt, he would have died right after beaming down with Piccard and saying "hey, what's that, let me take a look... AAARRRRGHH..."

Whenever in Star Trek there was a need to kill a character, they obviously wouldn't pick a main character. They used an unknown random instead, and he/she would always wear a uniform with a red shirt.
So when you saw someone in an episode wearing red, and you thought "wait, who the hell is that?" you knew that that person would die in the next few minutes.
This book is from the point of view of a redshirt....who realises they're in a tv show. Super funny :)
