I would alter "The Great Gatsby."
After Gatsby leaves for the war, his lover, Daisy, is mortally wounded by her husband Tom, an inventor with a violent disposition. Tom turns her into a cyborg to save her life. Daisy doesn't change much from the original story - she is still an amoral person who cannot make any decisions by herself and lacks the capacity to love Gatsby as he loves her, mainly because Tom programmed her to remain loyal. Tom doesn't have affairs because he is guilt-ridden for having almost killed Daisy. He takes her around the world in an attempt to make her happy again, and so make amends.

When Gatsby realises that Daisy is a cyborg after five years, he uses his wealth, accumulated through dealing in black-market robot parts, to discover a way to return Daisy to normal.

Failing in this, he instead reprograms her to love him.
Tom's reaction is brutal: he launches a full assault against Gatsby's mansion with military-grade robots only to find the two lovers gone.

However, Gatsby becomes depressed because Daisy is now only 47% of the person he had loved and eventually drinks himself to death.

Hm.. Lenin, Stalin and Hitler: The Age of Social Catastrophe as- wait, shit. That's not a story. Uh.. Can I use a movie instead? If so, Pacific Rim with better writing and make the mechs half alien, so they can regenerate slowly after being hit, and moving the nuclear reactor to a spot less hit by aliens (crotch) so that it's less likely to spontaneously meltdown, like that nuclear Evangelion in.. you should all know what Evangelion is. If I can't use a movie, then.. Attack on Titan manga. I would change it so there's also a zombie horse horde outside with the titans. I don't know why, just that.

With all the stuff you want. Each "stop" to pass would be a complete mess.

You can also possibly make a new game from all this shit.
