My favorite top-down shooter is Hotline Miami

Thanks :) Good luck to you!
I didn't try Hotline Miami yet. I don't like it because of extreme violence and the general idea of killing people just for fun. Is it really that good? I may be mistaken about some aspects of this game.

For me, HM's extreme violence was one of the points that sold me this game. And saying "extreme" I really mean it. So if you don't like this sort of things, I wouldn't recommend it.
But general idea wasn't "killing people just for fun". HM (and both it's sequel Wrong Number) has a quite complex and twisted storyline, and all characters have their motivations to kill. Yet hurting other people is really fun, can't deny it.
Okay, and now for the main reason why I love this game so much. There are actually 2 ways to play HM. You can stealth, bait enemies and be careful. Or you can be A MOTHERFUCKING WIND OF DESTRUCTION, killing everyone in a level in less than a minute. Beating the game on A+ was one of the most difficult, adrenaline-pumping and satisfying experiences in my gaming career. But, of course, that makes it an advantage only if you like that sort of hardcore.
Oh, and the music. Don't forget about music. Actually, if my review convinces you not to play the game, listen to its OST. It's brilliant.

It sounds interesting from your description. Especially plot (checked a bit on wiki) and music part. I'll try to check it when possible.

I loved top-down RPGs like Gauntlet :-)
Thanks!

Heard good things about it several times. Is it as good in single-player as in coop? Or is it more like Left 4 Dead where coop is the main part of the game?
