Are you sure about austria? I'm pretty sure that I've read the lock has been lifted some time after the release.
Anyway, still locked for germany. I'll move on!

maybe he meant Australia not Austria?
Comment has been collapsed.
I think he actually meant Austria though I also heard the lock has been lifted.
Stupid country restrictions anyway x.x

silly region locking

if I am not mistaken, it is related to german law - something about nazi symbols being forbidden, their WWII related games are (or at least were) censored

Thank you very much Scruffman!

And yeah, people are screwed because their country think that showing violence in game for adults is a no-go.
Comment has been collapsed.
that is often the reason for cuts in Germany, but not in this case. the problem in this game is that the international version shows swatikas. this is forbidden by law in Germany. you could design a cute little harmless puzzle game... if you put even a single swastika in it, it would still get cut/censored here.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok, thanks :D
We've got here law that forbids propagation of swastikas in media / public spaces and so on. But it doesn't apply to video games or movies (they'd be banned just if theirs sole purpose would be to glorify Nazism). But here I can understand why Germany wants to cut of those ties with this symbol completely.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah yes, because forbidding historical insignia in fictional contexts is totally a rational, sane response that actually does something to curb fascism.
German censorship is beyond retarded.
Comment has been collapsed.
even moreso as swastikas can be shown in movies, as long as it isn't a movie to promote/glorify nazism. BUT if it's game instead of a movie.... cut/censored.
Comment has been collapsed.
Swasikas are not "forbidden by law" in Germany. There are tons of movies (like Inglourious Basterds) or tv shows (like South Park) that show swasikas without any problems, because they are considered as "art". They even get shown in documentary tv shows at the evening for educational purposes.
The reason why a "cute little harmless puzzle with swasikas" as well as PC and video games get censored, is that it would be considered to be propaganda for unconstitutionally organizations - and propaganda for unconstitutionally organizations is in fact forbidden in Germany, not the swasika per se. Another thing is that PC and video games are not considered as "art" in Germany, unfortunately.

this is not quiet right...they are "not forbidden by law" in Germany for games...its the publishers, to avoid trouble.

Wolfenstein. Niiiiiceeee.

Than Kiou for the chance and here's a wee link for some half-informed people and why this game is banned in Germany..Nothing to do with violence in games.
Most of the time half-knowledge is far more dangerous than complete ignorance..
Comment has been collapsed.
It isn't "banned"! There is no such thing as a "ban" for PC and video games. If you're at least 18 years old, you're allowed to own, buy and use every game on this planet.
Stop spreading misinformation across the internet and do some research!

Do you realize you tried to correct me (and make me look bad) and then quoted (loosely) the exact content of what I just linked to? Read again what I said, try -maybe- to understand why I said it and take a chill pill because I don't appreciate your tone at all.
Furthermore if the game cannot be activated = banned. Apparently even if you are 99 years old you cannot play this game with these symbols, so it must be from another planet. If you -or other people- followed the link they would see crystal clear in what context the term "banned" was used. Whether that's the correct term by law IDGAF..In layman's languange that's what it is.
So stop trying to make other people look bad when you didn't even bother to understand the reply. Apology accepted..
PS1. Soz Scruffman, didn't want to turn this into arena, but wasn't my fault..
PS2. Lol.. and he blacklisted me after his post, not even reading my reply.. Kids..Turns out it was a mistake, Alright we'll stick to PS1 which was quite the success console!Comment has been collapsed.
First and foremost: I did not blacklist you. Don't know what you're talking about.
If a game can't be activated, then it's because of a DRM system blocking the attempt. This is not a "ban", especially not from a legal aspect (which is what you were referring to with the link to a German law). The only thing I said was that there are no "bans" for PC and video games to this date (from a legal aspect).
May be that I was a little scruff, but that was because my washing machine blew up an hour prior to my posting the text and an 45 minute fight with an "support" hotline. sigh
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll just stick to the washing machine blown up.. I feel you, and also that can be really dangerous stuff. Should not leave washing machines unattended (not that you did) as they can cause massive fires.
But, to clarify in a milder manner now that the heat has soothened, I was pointing out that because of the whole "insignia" (well certain of them) issue in Germany, that is the reason of the "ban" (short for not being able to play it and not from a legal standpoint) and not just because of "violence in games" like someone else mentioned..
I think we're good here. Move along people, nothing to see..

Oh, wait. I was blacklisting someone else while I was heading towards your Steam profile. Looks like I mixed something up. Give it another try.

You're not allowed to buy uncut versions within germany or australia, but you may buy uncut versions from abroud. For steam: You can't buy uncut (vpn is forbitten), but you may trade (or gift) uncut versions and activate them legally.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not true. You're allowed to buy, own and use every game in Germany (and espacially in Austria) if you're at least 18 years old and the game has not been confiscated.
Bethesda is just fucking with us and blocking the uncensored version of the game for German customers. There is no law that would require a company like Bethesda to do so, but they still insist that they have to to it. Total bullshit.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sure. I only talked about the purchase of uncut games. Age restriciton and confiscated games are cases for themself and are considered to be fulfilled. You may use, own and buy uncut games, but retailer within germany and/or austria may not sell you the uncut version (like the german steam store). But as you can purchase from abroud it's not difficult to buy it uncut anyway.
Comment has been collapsed.
You said that "you're not allowed to buy uncut versions within Germany". But you are! Even within Germany and even with indexed games.
Comment has been collapsed.
I see expressed myself wrong. I meant the purchase in terms of the location of the retailer, but I see I wrote it the wrong way (This happens if you rewrite a post without checking the result) Take my second post as a correction. I can change the first post too if you like.

true i have the uncut version of this game...i got a gift of quake pack or what its called.
