Never pre-ordered game. Always wait for reviews. Mafia III is a good example of why games do not pre-order.

Why must it always be extremes with people? I feel like everyone in the world used to preorder, and now everyone has switched to the other side and calls everyone an idiot if they do.
I've always felt like it doesn't make much sense to preorder, especially if there aren't any bonuses that come with it, but now with Steam refund, there really is no reason to berate anyone who chooses to do so. If the game turns out to be shite, they can get their money back.

I pre-ordered South Park™: The Fractured but Whole™ on 06/10/2016. Since then, it's been delayed again and again and I don't even know if I'll ever get to play it...or at least if my future grandchildren will get to play it. So, I admit, I'm an idiot, but why should I get locked up? ;_;

While I agree that pre-ordering is bad, I disagree with your attitude.
While I can recommend not to pre-order, I won't judge someone for spending money as they do. It's none of my business.

Why? If you order on steam and the game is bad within the first 2 hours you get a full refund.

To do the "vote with your wallet" mentality that people against preordering bring up so often you can actually still do the preorder, then refund in the 2 hour timeframe if the end product is not to your liking. This hurts developers who make shitty games even more than doing nothing at all. All in all I would not recommend this either as it is just a lot of hassle to "serve justice".
(also I don't preorder anymore, last title I did was GTAV for the xbox360, when the store managed to sell my preordered copy to some random dude or dudette... had to wait a week after release day to get a copy from the new batch..)

*Unless it's a CDPR game. They have earned enough credibility to allow for pre-ordering.

But generally, yeah. Pre-ordering is stupid
