I just happened across your Halloween post and joined up. However I am unsure the best way to tag you in giveaways. Thanks!

Hey everyone...went to join up...and the group page right now has no join links or anything. So strange. Says it's a public group, etc., etc. But all I can do is view members and posts.

Am I missing something here? Thanks.

I was able to join JUST five minutes ago so I have no idea...

Figured it out...I had to go into the hamburger menu at the upper left and choose "view desktop website" and then the page looked like normal with a join button. That modern view has no way to join.

Only problem is that my steam client is now using that modern view too, and the hamburger button isn't there. So unless I find where I can force things the same way in the client, it's currently impossible for me to join a group inside the Steam client. I'll have to find the group in a browser, choose view desktop website, and join from there. Bad code on Steam's part. Sheesh.

Anyway, I'm in. Hooray!

On Firefox for Android, I could find the Join Group button after clicking the blue triple bar button (what is it called?). I don't use the mobile Steam client, though.

This was actually in the full Steam client on PC, as well as the default view in a full-screen browser. Yeah. Something's rotten in Denmark.

And yes, the triple-bar button is often referred to as the "hamburger" button or menu...because it looks like the stacked ingredients of a hamburger. 😉

Out of curiosity I went and tested this on Firefox for Android, Steam app for Android, Firefox for PC (Windows), and the Steam client (Windows). In every single case I could see the green button for joining the group.
I think you just encountered a bug.

I think so, too. ATEOTD, everything we see in the Steam client (for communities, the store, etc.) is just a rendered web page, which explains why it's largely the same when viewing it in a browser. Hopefully, it'll right itself.

Yeah but they're different renderers, or at least different versions of the same renderer. From what I heard the Steam client is based in Chromium while Firefox has their own in-house renderer, so that tells me that webpage is displaying correctly in a few different browsers.
Have you tested it on another PC? Just to make sure it isn't something broken on that specific Windows installation.

Unfortunately, my gaming rig is down right now, so I just have my laptop. And then I guess it wouldn't be an apples-to-apples comparison, since my laptop is Win11 and my gaming tower is Win10 Pro. I wouldn't think that the OS would make any difference, but who knows? Steam sometimes does some janky OS calls. But this does appear to be purely an issue with the embedded web code.

Could be add-ons. Try accessing the page without them, selectively or all.

I'll take a look, although add-ons should be browser-specific, and it's behaving the same way in the Steam client, so any add-ons shouldn't apply there (in theory 😉).

Do you have any DNS filtering or antivirus services enabled? The Steam client and the browser are separate entities, but they're showing the same behaviors, so I think something at the system level is messing with them. Added hamburger button to memory, thanks!

Well, nothing that's changed since it 100% worked before. 😁🤓 So the change is on their end somewhere. That doesn't mean that one of those things doesn't have anything to do with it...just that it's not something new that I've enabled or anything. I could see something like an ad blocker messing something like that up, but that would also mean that they have that component improperly tagged/labeled. <shrug> But I may play with seeing if anything like DNS/antivirus is affecting it, but if it is, it's still a bug on their end. If properly coded, there's no reason that either of those things would affect a single button/drop-down option on a screen.
