No. It's not that hard.
From now through 11:59pm ET, April 12, if you have already purchased Fallout 76 on Bethesda.net, you have the opportunity to get the game on Steam, including Wastelanders.
If you bought it/will buy it until 11:59pm ET, April 12, you'll get it on Steam as well, no need to buy again.

I can find a copy for 8$ but the fact that it has loads of microtransactions and a monthly premium membership feature doesn't exactly entice me for purchase. Not really keen on paying more than once for a 40$ game. I'll wait for the inevitable f2p switch before deciding to try it out.

Eeeeeh, the microtransactions are basically all cosmetic, I haven't felt the need to put any money into the game and you can earn more than enough atoms in-game to buy whatever you want in the storefront. The only non-cosmetic microtransactions from what I know is a fridge that makes food last a bit longer and then repair and scrap kits, but you don't need any of that.
The premium membership is absolute garbage and anyone who is willing to waste money on that s just a complete idiot XD.

Except the ones that aren't and offer advantages to players despite no P2W was promised. Premium membership also has P2W elements. Not everyone is so okay with lack of ethics as you are.

As I stated I'm only aware of fridge, repair and scrap kits that are non-cosmetic microtransactions, but you can easily get enough atoms to buy it in a day or two. yeah its P2W in that aspect then but if your playing with player damage off it doesn't really matter much.

It has always mattered, that's why free to play games sold you ways to play faster, because then they control the experience, and increase the chance of people spending money on stuff. When full price games make dress-up games and play sims with each furniture purchaseable, that's another issue.
They make up the numbers for loot drops, equipment, enemy encounters and all kind of balance. Nothing is stopping them to slow down the "ideal" progress speed by 10-30% and then cash in on the store. Ubisoft and Warner does it with anti-grinding xp-bonuses, and in a more natural way it happened in Fallout Shelter too: the higher level your vault is, the harder to get lunchboxes, and whoever got used to the "free drug" period in the beginning will experience the need for purchasing a few. Not everyone will, but these systems prey on users, and make everyone's experience worse just because they can.

I agree with your points but I haven't ever been the type of person who would spend money on any microtransactions. As someone who doesn't spend any money on microtransactions, I still enjoyed the game, and I was one of the suckers who pre-ordered it and had to sit through a shit ton of issue, but it was still fun :).Until they nerved the multishot explosive weapons, then it got real boring for me.

I thought they were straight up releasing a free edition and moving to a boosted microtransaction hell / pay-DLC format. So I came here to call the free edition "still too expensive" but it turns out it's just a cross-platform key for current owners. Oh well.
I mean if they really overhauled the game and sorted everything out, I wouldn't begrudge them. Apparently No Mans Sky was a wreck to start off with, but apparently with a lot of time and effort they managed to inject a soul back into it. Though I think in the case of this title it's more the degree of constant hiccups, broken promises and creeping microtransaction elements, which kind of kills the feeilng of competency / good will. Then again, I'm from the outside looking in. Never played it myself and I don't plan to.

Well, I checked some new videos about the game and...actually I liked it lol.
Like Fallout 4 with coop and REALLY large map.
And it costs ~8$ (on-some-russian-siite for Bethesda launcher + "free" Steam copy, so that's a good deal imo.
P.S. I'm not Todd Howard.

For those of you who linked your Steam account to Bethesda but have not received your Fallout 76 pre-load, please be patient. We're in the process of granting further access now and it should show up in your Steam Library shortly.
If you missed the opportunity to link your Steam account to your Bethesda.net account, don't worry as we are extending the window to April 28.
Link your account to get your free Steam copy of Fallout76 by the end of the month.

As much hate as this game gets I feel like people should know that the wastelanders dlc is such a huge improvement to the game. It is something that should've been in the game from the start. This is a game people love to hate on but it's actually really fun. Me and my husband sink so many hours into this game everyday and there is a lot of content.
