"British studio Argonaut has announced a Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster, and as you might imagine given that it's making an announcement, Argonaut itself is being revived as well.

Describing itself as a "legendary studio known for bringing its pioneering 3D technology to a 2D gaming world" back in the 80s, Argonaut says it's making a return after "a 20-year hiatus", although "hiatus" seems a strange word to use given the studio closed its doors in the mid-2000s.

The studio goes on to say it's making a "grand comeback as a boutique publisher" and that it's got a "planned slate of classic Argonaut IP" in the works, starting with a remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos."

Original will be included with the remaster.

For now only a GOG release is confirmed and no steam version will be coming for the time being.

My brother loved this game. Didn't expect that it would get a remaster, but that's great.

Played this as a kid with my trusty PSX, loved it. So glad to see Argonaut returning.

It's great to see the remaster coming, but a remake would be more welcome. I've tried playing it recently and it's a really hard pick with today's gaming sensibilities. A lot of stuff that worked back in the day just doesn't work anymore in terms of game design.

I do have fond memories of it, but it's mostly nostalgia

So it IS coming to Steam?

Because I've seen the announcement trailer and was excited as hell, but it didn't say which platforms it's gonna be released on. That's a huge relief, I loved the game so much back then!

Wasn't announced months ago? or it was a leak?
Also Gex games are getting ports.
Now I only need a Jersey Devil remaster/remake to have all my favorite PSX 3D platform games on Steam, I doubt it'll happen though.

Enjoyed the original, but not really a fan of how the remaster looks. Appears they took all the 3D models and just subdivided them a few times giving them a weird blobby appearance. Textures seem to have been re-painted (not seeing any obvious AI upscale artifacts) but since the UV's haven't been updated the tiling and stretching issues are extremely noticeable. I'd have preferred a direct port that kept the original art and just added 16:9 resolutions, high framerate, and some different control options (the originals tank controls were odd even at the time).

EDIT: Looks like you can play with the original PS1 graphics, they even include a CRT filter for it! Definitely buying this now :)

GOG only means until they want to make money and put it on Steam which it should be in first place - not interested anymore
