Why do people consider newborn baby humans cute? (or babies in general)

Whenever someone looks at a newborn and says they're beautiful I'm like lolwut. If they're the same skin tone, size and don't have anything clearly distinguishable like a ton of hair they all look the same and their own parents couldn't pick them out in a hospital nursery without their name tags :).

This is something I used to wonder before my son was born. And then, all of a sudden, when you see your child's face for the first time it all makes sense. Theres no explanation, its just pure magic.

I don't get what cuteness has to do with being 'new or surprising'. Same about the comments about them looking indistinguishable from one another. For example all Siberian hamsters are pretty much the same yet are very cute.

It's not that I think that newborns are cute (even my own), but these comments suggest a complete lack of understanding of what 'cute' means.

Personally I find babies cute when they seem to have personality (assuming it's positive personality), which for my daughter could be seen at about 2 weeks old (she looked alert an inquisitive), and for my son at around 6 weeks old, when he started smiling, although I really connected with him only at 3 months old, when he started laughing.

I baby is a baby, like a tree is just a tree. You are right. But to answer your question, it's all about scientific concept of Cuteness.

I don't find them disgusting, but I always find it disgusting when everybody thinks, the are so cute.
