Yep, just played an online match and every champion was permanently unlocked. Cool thing is they are already unlocked before playing, just not permanently. So you can choose whichever one you like for the first match. It's a fun game. Although the loading screens and search times to find a match were a little excessive. And even though I had about 13 ping, sometimes I would rubber band around for no apparent reason. Still, it's alright.

You can choose your data centers, it's the globe icon in the lower right corner on main menu. You can drop the one lagging and maybe pick some more to rise the matchmaking pool. It's quite high latency tolerant, as last Quake Pro League was played online due to Covid, and even US vs EU matches looked playable.

Yea, think it used to be 250K favor but they changed that. You can even get about 7 shards every week just logging in, minus shards from the free battle pass.
The only thing that's difficult now IMO is getting cosmetics...hard to earn since they removed favor and lootboxes are rare.

tried myself. for anyone wondering: worth the time.
the game is fun and you may visit it later for some quick matches.

I'm on to it. Thank you, OP
edit: I can confirm it works. I just completed a bot match and I got all characters unlocked

Years have past since release and game is still registering hits on client side... Not gonna waste 30gb on my hard drive for that.

probably not the first time, i went back a few months ago and for whatever reason they gave me enough shards to unlock every character in the game.

Tick all possible online game modes, you will have more probabilities that way (tick each game mode's box).

Enjoyed playing it when it was new. Just like the Quake 3 experience. However, when only the hardcore playerbase stayed, the fun left with the newbies. Don't have the time to gitgud anymore...

I tried it to get the champions, played a few rounds.
I still like arena shooters, and I still suck at them :)
What bugs me though, is that a game that
is still marked as Early Access on steam!!

Started it for the first time, could not get into options menu since I had to start a Team Deathmatch as introducion and the game crashed right after finishing the match requesting to fill a crash report -.-
For the first experience... It set all settings to low and reduced resolution to 45%....on 3444x1440... that felt visually worse than playing Delta Force 1 from 1998. Could not get into any other match afterwards, but I got the option to buy a 2 day haste potion for some kind of real money currency... oh and I got some very very legendary stuff out of some loot boxes.
Very solid presentation... at least that explains why it's named free 2 play and not fun 2 play

No, that was just the first time starting the game. Just got the click tutorial how to start a match, where I had to start it, without being able to do anything aside, not even config anything. That was only possible after the crash and restart. I simply wanted to play another round vs other player with adjusted settings, but always got thrown out due a time limit reached for finding a match. Tried a few times but no chance to join anything. Took a look at the rest and... well, does not seem to be worth any more effort tbh.

honestly forgot about that. I too hate when games do that forced tutorial bs
"time limit reached"
oh yeah, back when i used to play this, it was so much worse. I was playing agaisnt a friend in the same country and it still took ages to start a match.
It looks better now.

iD/Bethesda is running QuakeCon giveaway for Quake Champions, you can get all currently available champions for free, all you have to do is complete one match during the time of QuakeCon (August 7-9, 2020).
Game is in pretty good state right now, unlike on launch, with option to play against bots with progressive difficulty (for those who don't enjoy multiplayer games) in multiple classic arenaFPS game modes.
Game is F2P on Steam or Bethesda launcher (Bethesda launcher is not required for Steam version).
Download size is approx. 25GB / 29GB disk space required.
