sorry if this is a dumb question but i'm wondering who buys these games and why? like most of these seem to be obscure titles, and then it also says they might not result in +1 to your game count (and steam level xp). so do people buy these for card farming or something?

Hey it takes all kinds. I'm sure some of these games can be very fun for a little while.
I never judge a book by its cover so I wasn't really talking about these. Steam has made a business of selling broken games, demos packaged as games and unfinished games. Those, I have a problem with.
But a little indie game, even if it's minimalist, is still a game.
