lol @ all the yaoi/fujoshi comments. If only there were BL games in bundles...most of the VNs here are otome (girl pursues boy, though a couple of these have female love interests too).

I've had my eye on Backstage Pass for such a long time, and this is such a killer price for it...I'm really not interested in anything else, but £3.56 for Backstage Pass is heavy tempting.
So.....how does Happy Hour work? I've seen it asked and explained a few times before, but for some reason I'm just not getting it.
So, help me out and take me through it slowly....Happy Hour would mean that I pay for one copy, and get another copy free? So, I don't buy anything just now, I wait until/if HH is on and then purchase, as a gift? And that's it....boom, extra copies?
Or have I drastically misunderstood?

If you don't buy now, but you buy during HH (marked as a gift), then you will get 2 copies yes.
If you buy 1 now (the first week of its release) for yourself, and then again during HH (marked as a gift), then you will receive an additional 4 copies for an increased price of course! :)

From googling about, I'd seen some people say that they were unable to buy just during HH, with an error saying that since they hadn't bought in the 1st week, they were unable to buy the bundle, by clicking the gift button...
But essentially, if we assume I'm not a power buyer, and I'm not interested in having like 4 extra copies, just go for the buy one get one free, I should be able to make a first purchase during HH, select GIFT and have 2 copies of everything?
Also, when does HH happen? Is it a scheduled thing, or it is variable ( like, once so many bundles are sold or something? )

Odd. Well, with waiting till HH arrives I have not tried myself. But could be that they changed it around or something. They still have it in their HH FAQ:
If you haven’t purchased the HIGH TIER bundle ever before, you will receive 1 extra gift containing the full bundle. e.g. If you purchase 1 gift, you will receive 1 extra gift containing the full bundle.
Remember to check the "Is it a gift?" checkbox to take advantage of Happy Hour.
You could try group buy, or I could save a gift link for the bundle for you in case it goes wrong.
HH usually happens one week after the bundle went live. Every bundle gets a couple HH in case one misses it.

If you want just for yourself now is cheaperthough. You get 2 copies during HH, but that also means you pay about 50-60% more (still less than 2 copies normal, but if you just want for yourself...)

There is not really an incentive to wait. As MilleW wrote, Happy Hour doubles your bonus if you purchase once during Happy Hour, but at that time the price will have gone up from the initial 24 hour deal, so your savings will be less than 50% and more like 25% (provided you have use for the extra copies). If, instead, you buy now, you get the reduced price for the first package, and if you buy again during happy hour, you'll get 4 extra copies for the price of an additional package. That's 5 packages for the price of roughly 1½, as opposed to 2 for the price of 1.
So, unless you need exactly 2 copies, you might as well buy one now and decide for the rest later.

For $26.52 you get 5 bundle gifts. 1 bundle gift = 4 bundles. So that's 20 in total.
You can buy up to 40 in total. Not sure how the price range is after 20, or if you need to buy 20 first and then another payment with 20. I never bought that many before so. :p

IG happy hour, basically you buy 1 BTA in 1st week for normal price, then 1 BTA in happy hour (as a gift) you get 3 free BTA bundle gifts. So for this bundle if you paid $4.49 in the 1st week + $6.24 in HH = 5 BTA bundles instead of 2.
This is multiplied for even more savings with the 'gift pack' options which is used by groupbuy hosts etc.

ahh, after a really super long "first time load" of the new layout, the bundles button started working again and it's a little easier to tell the new and hh tags that way. but yeah, the new layout is horrible imo.
edit: even 2nd time load is same actually... slow functioning atm.
edit2: idk what's going on.. i'm only getting that button to work ~25% of the time.

I agree with you, they've also changed the front page, it's more difficult to spot the bundles on Happy Hour with the new design :/ When I first saw it I thought they had removed the Happy Hours altogether...

Maybe their partners got fed up with the day-long happy hours that pretty much suggested everybody to stock up on 40-packs to split the cost to almost nothing. It is a question of time how long can they do the current shenanigans before they either change the business model or join the ranks of ultra-low grade bundle sites.

They dug a huge hole for themselves with the HH business model so it's hard to get out of even if they wanted to. Not many people would be willing to buy their bundles at $3+ with the current quality of games included, and I'm sure many of the devs wouldn't agree to bundle if the price stayed at $1ish. There's been a big drop in quality with IG bundles over the last year or so due to this. Most of the big games go to Humble, and occasionally BS
I think the problem with trying to change this is that their reputation of selling dirt cheap bundles is already sealed and it's difficult for them to sign new devs after the fact. Kind of similar to what happened to Groupees after their preorder crap. No one wants to bundle with Groupees anymore.
