Not enough puzzles lately, so I figured I'd make my own.

I doubt you'll solve it, but go right ahead.

Oh, and there are five giveaways at the end. They're only up for one week from now.

I should note that this ends at 16:00 GMT, October 14th. Or at least that's what I recall setting them to...?

EDIT: I've added three additional hints since the puzzle began.

Well, there's people who have solved it already. It's actually easier than you might think. Google helps.

How many words are they? All with small fonts or Capital letter for each word?

In itstoohard.com you can enter the answers without caring of the uppercase and lowercase letters issue, they aren't case sensitive.

Yes, please. I am almost positive that I have it all figured out, and am just overlooking one critical thing, and for the life of me, I cannot figure it out.

It seems to be over so please put me out of my misery. Thought it was whistle, whistled, whistler, whistling, whistles, whistleblower (with and without a hyphen), whistleblow, whistleblowing, whistleblown. Tried more, every variation I could think of. :(

What was your logic?

Lol, this is going to sound really stupid.

Toothpaste has fluoride in it. Fluoride if you're a retard sounds or looks like Flo Rida. Flo Rida has a song called whistle.

PVC could be Paradise Valley, California. . Paradise Valley Grapefruit Ale is brewed by the Whistler Brewing Co. This also involves the grapefruit clue.

Malum - This one is extra tenuous! Alternatively, malic acid is often used in brewing, thought it might tie in with the grapefruit ale.

The human hearing spectrum - well whistling is a noise you can hear.

The hebrew word for paradise - Paradise Valley again.

The same tartan pattern appears on this It says lemon company although that's a grapefruit (they also sold those) .Note the word Corona on there. Whilst it's referring to Corona, CA, part of the Whistler Ski resort in Canada (or some part near it at least) is called the Corona bowl.

Failing hard!

Ah, nice. I personally went off The Beatles logic presented above, and The Beatles took interest in a band called the Grapefruit, and one of the founding members of that band, Alexander Young, was Scottish, and I took the plaid to represent a Scottish kilt. It seemed to fit together so well, but I was just overlooking one thing...

I, too, took the Beatles/Music route and added:

Eden hint

Grapefruit hint (The band is also named after the book)

And somehow this was missed in the conversation here, Vinyl records are made from... polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

Couldn't find what the question was looking for though.

After some googling I found this.
Seems to fit somewhat, doesn't feel like I'm close to the answer though.

Okay, here you go!

I got the idea for this puzzle after hearing this played a lot on a "golden oldies" kind of station recently. What I was asking for was the song Tempted by Squeeze. Listen to it here.

Hint explanation:

  • Toothpaste and toothpaste (image): It's right in the beginning of the lyrics, "I bought some toothpaste, a toothbrush...". Of course it's not meant to direct you straight to the answer; it's meant to confuse.
  • mālum: In Latin traditionally both the word for "evil" and "apple", which one could of course associate with the original sin from Abrahamic creation mythology. Specifically, temptation. Related to the word μῆλον, which is Ancient Greek for any kind of fruit.
  • (C2H3Cl)n: Polyvinyl chloride. Used to make music records. Since the song was originally released as a vinyl single, I think it fits.
  • 20 Hz - 20 kHz: Considered the average hearing range for humans.
  • עֵדֶן, גַן עֶדֶן: While I admit I am no expert in Hebrew, Google Translate converts it to "Eden, a paradise". Might help with the Adam & Eve connection.
  • Squeezed grapefruit (image): The band's name is Squeeze. There's a fruit. The lyrics say "Tempted by the fruit of another".
  • Flannel texture (image): The lyrics say "...some flannel for my face...". Even if you can't recognize it, a simple reverse image search will tell you the name of the fabric.

That's that, then. Thanks for playing!

Ah man, I was actually putting in a bunch of Adam and Eve related terms like snake, sin, etc. But I didn't go anywhere near that.

I found the image on wikipedia flannel but it really didn't help.

I can't believe googling "Toothpaste toothbrush lyrics" gives the answer.

Nice. I never would have gotten the band. I got white from the toothpaste which loosely translates into the Name Fiona. So I kept guessing at things by Fiona Apple :)

ah once I got it I thought the eden a paradise was realted to where it was recorded ..eden stuidos http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Side_Story_(Squeeze_album)

I found it by trying to figure out what the imaged meant the last two.. I wasn't sure if it was plaid tartan or flannel so I figured that out then did the same with the squeeze one for squeeze juice grapefruirt then I searched for thos two terms together and bam =p really was so hard
