This is a list I've made myself of all currently soundtracks, audiobooks, drama CDs and sound stuff that you can add for free and legally to your Steam library. You shouldn't even need the base game to add them (read below for a caveat).

I started with this thread about the same subject: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/XCks6/free-music-in-steam-can-add-without-base-game
So thanks to everyone there for their contribution. That thread hasn't been updated in more than one year, so I think it's better to make a new post than to use necromancy.

I used it as a start, getting more than half of this list from there; then removed the things no longer available, used some searches in SteamDB and Steam Store to find more, and since now these products have the nice blue button "add to library" in the store page, I skipped the SteamDB step (but it's in the instructions nonetheless).

The list is not prone to errors. For example, I might have been able to activate one soundtrack because I already had the base game, and it's really a bother to check for those. It's also a bother to check which ones that I already had could be activated by others without the base game, so yes, there might be stuff not there, or stuff there that shouldn't be. All things you need to know are in the text as caveats, instructions and comments, and then the list, currently 266, of the links of all these free products you can add.

Everything is in this PasteLink link. Feel free to share the link anywhere you want. Last update: 24-Sep-2024.
https://pastelink.net/d12v8s82

You can also report stuff (in the way explained in the list) in this thread, I'll try to update the list, but I might not be available or active. Thank you.

Are you into game soundtracks?

View Results
Yes, I like a lot of them, and there are real great ones
Sometimes, if the game or soundtrack call my attention
Nope, for many games I even mute their music and listen to mine
I prefer potatoes over music

Both the 2nd and 3rd poll choice applies to me. I usually listen to my own music and then add soundtracks i like to my music library to listen when i want. I tried most or all of the free soundtracks on Steam, and only kept a few. Epic Battle Fantasy for example is really good.

Thanks, but pastebin doesn't have clickable links, so they also can't be parsed by Steam Web Integration and the like.
Could you paste the links in the post or in a comment?
I mostly wonder if there are any soundtracks on the list that are not caught by https://steamdb.info/freepackages/

[edit] I noticed you changed to pastelink, with working links - thank you!

Hello JMM, I very much appreciate the effort!

May I suggest Madjokis Tool? It automatically lists every free soundtrack and if you install the userscript, you can add every soundtrack at once just with the click of one button. This link should take you right to the soundtracks.

You can add every other free stuff on Steam (Games, Demos and so on) the same way if you just change the category on the upper left side.

Thank you, it sounds like a nice tool.

However, it has the same problem as a similar search on Steam, or using SteamDB instead. It includes free soundtracks that need base game. My list is (mostly) free of those. It also lists ones with store page but still unreleased. And other stuff. Actually it lists almost the same amount (330 products compared to 331 in Steam search), compared to 266 actually available to be added.

Still, I never heard of this page, so I'll take a deeper look, surely it can do things SteamDB can't, and viceversa.

Yeah, it's not curated, so it has it's flaws. As you pointed out, it also lists free soundtracks for which you have to actually own the base game. Still, I always just try to add all to my account and thus I actually get all soundtracks that indeed are free to add :)

For the poll, I chose 2nd. Battlechasers : Nightwar, Redout (Enhanced Edition), and PinOut is three of my favorites if anyone interested. However, when it comes to quality, if it's not lossless, then I won't bother with it. MP3 DLC(s) suck, I don't think there's a point buying a soundtrack unless it's lossless, and this list helped me to save some (some dlc like Frostpunk actually lossless and pretty good). Thanks!

After almost 2 years, the list has been updated with one OST. I discovered there was a game in this series that was released first, and it's free, but adding the OST also adds the game; for me it breaks the "no base game needed" rule so I ended not adding it.

Those should be able to be added via the "install" button in SteamDB. No need for the extension, but you need to log in with your Steam account just like you do here in SG.

Also change the URL from https://store.steampowered.com/app/1932850/Cursed_Quest_Soundtrack/ to https://steamdb.info/app/1932850/

It's all well explained in the pastelink, IIRC.

!addlicense ASF [AppID],[AppID],[AppID],[AppID],..

Usually you can use the AppID from the url, for example:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1813580/Tower_To_Heaven_Soundtrack/
Would be !addlicense 1813580 or !addlicense a/1813580

Sometimes the "Free on Demand" package ID doesn't match the one in the URL and you have to check for it on SteamDB (for example).

It's quite easy to extract all the appID from the pastebin text on Linux with a couple of commands.

However, ormax3 already posted the ASG commands for almost all entries a year ago

What Devotee said, but I advise to use !addlicense a/1813580,a/2345240,a/323410
If you don't put "a/" before the appID, ASF thinks it's a sub, tries it, and only if that fails tries with an app. The problem is not it only takes more tries and it's slower, it also reduces the amount of apps you can activate in an hour.
Also, ASF seems to be only able to take 20 appIDs in each addlicense command.

Also, ASF seems to be only able to take 20 appIDs in each addlicense command.

New Steam rate limit is 30 activations per 90 minutes or one every three minutes.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I mean the ASF command only accepts 20 appIDs. If you try to activate 21 within the addlicense parameters, the 21st will not be tried.
When I did it, I prepared all the addlicense with 20 appIDs and tried two every hour.
Now it's even more limited, "nice" to know.
Recently I bought a few bundles because "because". They were 29 games and a ton of DLCs. That was before this change, I guess, but now I'd be able to redeem the games and wait 90 minutes for the DLCs. I think it's unfair. I understand the reasons of having a limit rate, but I also think it should only be applied to unsuccessful activations (dupe or invalid) so legit users with legit keys can activate 100 in 10 minutes if they want.
Sorry about the rambling.

Really? Thanks for letting me know.
Well, then I guess something changed on ASF's end because in the past, when activations where still limited to 50 in an hour, I could activate 50 with addlicense within ASF.

Since the topic popped back up:
You can also always use Madjokis site for adding stuff. It has an ASF integration via script. Madjoki is also a part of our SG community, albeit he is hardly active anymore.

It should say in your Steam client, library, search for the names of the games and see if they have friend's passes.
But as I said, I have no idea what happened. Maybe you had them and only discovered them among all the new OSTs?
