I never tought of that like 'favorites'- i had favorite cartoons but i never picked films as favorites back then, so many i loved and i didnt rewatch them all the time, everytime one of them came up or an opportunity for it i was excited (as well as novelty, seeing new ones)
Probably (no particular order):
-neverending story (the amount of effects and imagination)
-gremlins 1-2
-ghostbusters
-the goonies
-Princess Bride
-indiana jones, all of them
-little shop of horrors
-the old ninja turtles movie (because i loved the cartoon)
-and MIB, probably the first one i recall being 'all the rage' for me when i first saw it

It also scarred my memory, but i think the 'nothingness' (idk if its called that, im translating from the word used in brazil) stuck more with me, the closest thing to existential dread in a children story. Coming to think of it its amazing how much more weight we give to those close to us, in this case the horse (also the scene was heavy), compared to pretty much the end of the world by the films end... all is well since everything revert back later and the dragon ride made up for it lol
The scene stuck with me for awhile, but after that initial shock left the nothingness stuck more to me. Somehow it conveys more the idea of death and end then any actual death or funeral- or at least it did in my child mind.
Suffice to say i didnt leave any book unfinished for a good while after that lol

I'd say it was Mortal Kombat, I watched it almost every day before going to school.

The Princess Bride is a gem. One of my favorites as a kid; probably still in my top 20-25.

Don't really remember having any favorites during pre-teen years, but then 1999 came (I was 14), and Fight Club, Sleepy Hollow and The Matrix were released. I was absolutely crazy about those three.

Treasure Planet, The Italian Job, Heat, The Departed, Inside Man, Training Day, American Gangster, Léon. It's been a while since I have watched a movie that I felt was great. At least those ones felt near perfect when I watched them, way back.

Ghostbusters... I loved it so much I 'permanently borrowed' my cousins VHS copy so I could watch it whenever I wanted. (Also kind of because she 'permanently borrowed' a CD I got for my birthday and then lost it.)

Tremors! I think it's a perfect movie, in that it masterfully accomplished everything it set out to do. Still in my top 5 to this day.

Wow. This is such an old thread the author hasn't been online for 4 years :D
But while I'm here - I loved anything with Schwarzenegger or Van Damme in. I had a VHS of Predator. We watched it day in day out with my cousin until the tape got worn out. Such a brilliant movie. Commando as well. Can't recall now movies with Van Damme but loved him as well

Cyborg with Van Damme has one of the best chase/fight scenes on a rice paddy or swamp. At least that's what I remember.

The Transformers: the Movie (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092106/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)
Flight of Dragons (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083951/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)
There were loads of great movies when I was a kid - or so my nostalgia tells me :)
