Quickstart:

Stage 1: Time is of the Essence
Stage 2: Journey Into the Unknown
Stage 3: The Stage is Set
Stage 4: Face Your Fears
Stage 5: I Dream of Keys
Stage 6: It Boggles My Mind
Stage 7: Seriously, I couldn't think of a good title
Stage 8: It is so Meta -> The Blind Leading the Blind

Rules:

  • No sharing giveaway links or character codes. No sharing ITH answers.
  • Feel free to give hints, bounce ideas off each other and generally help each other solve the puzzles. Essentially you can discuss anything except give away the answers. It is most likely impossible to reach the end without collaboration.
  • Please login to your ITH account before solving so I can note the top solvers for possible future giveaways.

It's been months since your mysterious benefactor last contacted you. Finally, today, the walkie-talkie springs to life once again: "I've found those thieves! I'll be sending you the coordinates, so get there ASAP!" A couple of minutes later, a letter twirls down from the sky and lands right in front of you. With the coordinates in tow, you head out to find the way back into The Temple of Steamgifts.

Corrections/Hints:

Journey Into The Unknown
--Correction: In picture #6, "Deliver the Message to Wilmuth" should be above "Deliver the Message to Eimar"--
NOT A FIX! IT'S NOT CORRECT
Hint 1: Clicky
Hint 2: Clicky

The Stage is Set
Hint 1: Clicky

I Dream of Keys
Hint 1: The characters that make up the keys don't matter. You can't construct the answer from the names of the games either.

The Blind Leading the Blind
Hint 1: There are six sets of six
Hint 2: For each set, out of the 36 lettered circles, you can construct six six-letter things concurrently (one per set of six circles). The other 5 positions on the circles will still be gibberish. Make sure to orient them in a such a manner that it falls under the mask - the mask is actually there only for orientation purposes, to make you put the circles so the word is pointing out towards 9PM. This puzzle has nothing to do with clock face or time
Hint 3: Each of the POKEMN upper letters indicates the lower letter is part of a particular set. All "P" letters belong in one set, etc.

I'm not sure if this is relevant but from TheRealKotA's list it seems almost every group has pokemons from the same generation:

P: gen 1
O: gen 2, except for Woobat(gen 5) and Krabby(gen 1)
K: gen 3
E: gen 4
M: gen 5
N: gen 6

We only take 6 for each group so O is exclusively generation 2, per this post:

I just came here to say this. Also alot of region comparisons too, though I hadnt set out to check them, was something I noticed while checking generations.

Or, align the letter arrows by 1,2,3,4,5,6 clock times, and the letter due west is the one?

My problem is I have so much different scraps of paper in front of me, I can only be sure that J is 5 and therefore P would show in the window.

I ran my script against this set and found one valid Pokemon name: Dodrio. Alas, it was not the answer to the ITH quiz.

Permalink

The answer may not be a pokemon, especially since dodrio was already an answer in the first set

Would it be possible to get this in image form?

Also, I wonder what Jatan would have done if there was only 35 6-lettered Pokemon names. :p

Thanks, how did you decide the order to place the completed wheels? Or doesn't it matter?

Once you assemble them it'll be obvious.

Then I'm missing something obvious. :(

Looking at Klinge's image for Set M, I see no reason why the positions of the Joltik and Emolga wheels couldn't be swapped. I guess what I'm asking is: why is Patrat first and Yamask last? It's not alphabetical or based on Pokemon index number.

You need to take Arrows in the "knee"! :)

Well, I may rephrase it. To be blind you need to take Arrows in the eyes. Arrows are for blindness.

I understood the importance of the arrows, there were just too many duplicates that kept throwing me off.

If you understand how Klinge got N from the M series in his picture, then look at the arrows and you'll see the significance of them. But there are overlaps that you'll have to figure out which is correct for each set.

I think I'm still missing something. For instance I'd say the 2nd letter is either an L or an O but I don't know which one.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It doesn't matter. ;þ Not when it comes to second letters, at any rate: whichever of the letters you use, this doesn't change the outcome.
Guessing which L among the first letters to use - that's a different kettle of fish altogether, and is quite important.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah that's what I meant. I have trouble positioning Togepi and Ledyba for instance. Looks like they could be either left or right.
One would give me an L and the other would give me an O.

My advice would be to go onto the next letter. If you only have two possibilities for the second letter, you'll be able to very quickly determine whether or not you're on the right track as you discover more of the letters.

Aaaand solved!

This was an awesome and really fun event! Thank you for doing all of this, and for all of the games. Puzzle-solving in a group is more fun than solving alone, I think, and these were actually hard enough to make collaboration almost necessary. I really enjoyed it!

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for putting this group puzzle event together. The time and effort to conceive and construct these puzzles must have been significant. It was really fun to work through them as a group, even though I started a few days late and was only able to contribute to the last stage. On top of the fun puzzles, the quality and the quantity of the prizes are amazing!

After solving the final stage, I felt much the same way as I do after finishing an excellent movie or book: appreciation for the work and its creator, combined with a tinge of sadness that it has come to an end. I'm already looking forward to the next one!

I'd just like to thank jatan11t for making this giant puzzle train, it occupied me for quite a while, thought me to use programs I'd never usually use and think up of countless (mostly wrong ^^) ways to solve a puzzle - Thank you ! (and for the 2 GA's I've won!)
