Anime Recommendations!!

• Hajime no Ippo. It's quite intense and overall really good. At first glance it looks like its quite long but in the end you'll be craving for more.
• Shinsekai Yori. It's one of the best anime I've ever seen. Though at first it's a bit confusing (until ep5 more or less)

Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, darker than black, hunter x hunter, cowboy bepop, neon genesis evangelion and fate zero

Haruhism?
No one really? :(

  ..and LUPIN III too, the live action movie is also great, it's very fun to watch.

There's alot great titles out there and that includes some of GIBLI's anime too. ENJOY!

Aha I'm pretty sure I've got a different anime taste than you, cause I'm a fan of highschool, slice of life, romance and comedy animes but anyway here are some recommendations :3

• Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui! (Watamote)
  It's about an otaku girl without any social skills. Oh you'll feel embarrassed a lot for some of the stuff she does xD

• Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!
  Actually it's like all of these Kyoto Animation animes, but I really liked the characters and the comedy parts in this one. Also these phantasy fighting scenes were just hilarious.

• Mayoi Neko Overrun!
  It's just freaking hilarious

The most other animes I like were already mentioned

This is interesting how many people would give advice if you ask them XD
There are many anime was adviced already so I'll give you a couple of my TOP anime, that someone mb would interested:
Wolf's rain
Mushishi
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (recommend to watch in 2009 order)
Durarara!!

And of course Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ! 'cause ROW! ROW! FIGHT THE POWAH!
This anime is one of the best that I have watched and maybe even THE BEST of all.

I only took a quick glance at the rest of the comments, but I'll try to list a few that haven't been mentioned

1. Rainbow <- Actually just started watching this one myself, but so far it's absolutely fucking amazing.
2. Welcome to the NHK <- Best depiction of a shut-in/depressed person (WataMote is alright too, but nowhere near the same level of execution - WataMote has more humor/cringe-worthy content)
3. Detroit Metal City <- This one's mostly enjoyable if you're into metal and want to have a good laugh at some typical stereotypes - it's probably still funny if you're not into metal but I don't think you'd appreciate it as much.
4. Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san <- This one's a hit or miss. If you don't like the first episode, you might as well drop it as it's the same type of humor in every episode.
5. Sword of the Stranger <- This one's a movie, but in terms of combat animation, it's #1 on my list despite being made in 2007
6. Cossette no Shouzou <- A very pretentious (sort-of-but-not-really horror) anime. A very simple story, but several different drawing styles based on old artists and an amazing soundtrack to go with it make this short (3-episode) anime a true masterpiece.

I might come back with some other suggestions, but my internet's acting stupid today and I don't know when it'll disconnect again so I'll leave at this for now.

Anime taste is pretty subjective, I always stay away from "slice of life" type stuff as a promise I made to myself when someone finally convinced me to start watching anime. I mostly focus on psychological/thriller/mystery, so I guess if that's your thing, I'll list things I either have watched or plan to watch because of their high feedback.
