Ahoy SteamGifters!

I have a private GA for Ron Gilbert et al's latest point & click adventure game - Thimbleweed Park™ - and I'm looking for level 2+ SG users to enter it. However, I'd really like to see it get played, so what I'm going to ask is for potential entries to nominate themselves by commenting on this discussion and explain why you should get a chance to win Thimbleweed Park™. It might be links to achievement stats for other completed point & click adventure games or with evidence of lots of playtime in other point & click adventure games (since many of the originals don't have achievements).

Please make it as easy as possible for me to check your assertions (i.e. for completed games, link to the achievement stats page for your Steam account, for playtime just link to your games list). I will NOT count any hidden object games (HOGs) or Telltale/Life is Strange type games towards your cause - they aren't really point & click adventures, sorry. If you pass my checks, I will send you a link to the GA via Steam - so please keep an eye out for a friend invite!

The GA closes at 12:30pm on Saturday 7th April.

(If you're a member of Actually Playing Games, please check the giveaways thread in the group forum to skip this check!)

Edit 1: the first bundle of friend requests and GA links have gone out -.if you haven't received anything but you didn't provide much information, then don't despair - just add a new comment with more details (given the above caveats) and I will reconsider your application.

I played the original two monkey island games a ton as a kid and also the likes of indiana jones and the fate of atlantis. (beat them all)
Don't really have many adventure games to show stats for or anything, so I guess you just gotta take my word for it? :D
This game went on my wishlist a few days ago immediately after I heard about it, so I'm definitely getting it at some point!

I'm afraid, Steam won't help me much, but I could at least try ^^
Deponia The Complete Journey (playing it for the second time now ^^): http://steamcommunity.com/id/Honigfuchs/stats/292910/achievements/
Anna's Quest: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Honigfuchs/stats/327220/?tab=achievements
I've also played through the Book of Unwritten Tales, though window mode seems to have messed with the recorded playtime ._. and there are no Achievements

And long before steam, I've played the original Day of the Tentacle (it might have been my very first Point & Click adventure <3), the Monkey Island games, the Broken Sword games, A Vampyre Story, Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island, Edna, as well as Harvey's new eyes, a quite old Sam & Max game, Syberia I, Paradise, Tunguska, Leisure Suit Larry (back then I didn't even understand how lewed these games were x.x)... I'm glad to also have some of them in my steam library now, but well ^^" didn't have the time to play them for a second (sometimes even third) time yet, so there is no proof ._.
Some more games I've played I did buy on GOG. Machinarium, Botanicula... So again, no proof...

I know, no good reason to add me =_=
Well, I can at least wish everyone else good luck! Appreciate Thimbleweed Park because I just know it's epic q.q

Funny I added this game yesterday to my wishlist.

a few that come to mind, probably missing some

Back to the Future
Broken Age
Gemini Rue
Grim Fandango (actually my fav game)
Leisure Larry in the Land of Lounge Lizards
Tales from Borderlands
Walking Dead
Wolf Among Us
Broken Sword Series (I mostly, II was left halfway)

There's others but they arent exactly point and click so I left them out and others that I've played outside of steam/other platforms.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/zaramie/games/?tab=all

And yes, I've got quite a big list of adventure games on my backlog, hopefully I'll eventually get to them.

I once saw a guy with Manny tattooed on his ancle. He was a photographer, I was standing in the first row waiting for The Cure set. I wanted to go to him and ask him to marry me, but that would have required me to lose my place in the first row, so I didn't. End of story. Not sure why I'm writing this at all.

I enjoy the Cure, especially when they had 65DaysOfStatic as support ( 😍 ) but I'd have been heavy tempted to lose my place in line.

I also have a Munny figure that my wife customised into a Munny Calavera:

I'd very much like to play Thimbleweed Park as I'm a long-time adventure game fan. I haven't played many on Steam (e.g. I played the Broken Sword games on GOG because I wanted to play the original versions) but I hope the following achievements will be enough to show my love for the genre:

Deponia
The Cat Lady
Darkness Within
The Last Door
The Last Door Season 2
Dead Synchronicity

Also some TellTale games, though hardcore point-and-clickers tend to frown upon them:

The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead Season 2

I'm affraid I won't be able to give enough achievement proofs, they are glitching in half the cases for some reason, and also I'm pretty new to Steam - I've played all the classics in my library back in the days, just not on Steam. I've been a fan of the genre since late 90s; actually, I fell in love with it with my first PC game ever, The Neverhood (I just didn't know it yet)). My all-time favourites are Gabriel Knight games (especially the second one), Grim Fandango, The Cat Lady, Full Throttle, The Longest Journey, Primordia, Sanitarium, Blackstone Chronicles, The Neverhood, The Lost Crown, Black Dahlia, X-files: The Game, Blade Runner, Downfall, Culpa innata, Oxenfree, Shannara and so on. As for Gilbert's games, Monkey Island games were among the first I've played in English; it was a bit hard at first, but diving into that crazy humour helped me while learning this language immensely.

Oh, and some links, of course:

My profile (I really should find some time and clear all that free idled trash out)

Hello Nick!
I hope I'll qualify, since I've been interested in Thimbleweed Park ever since I first heard of it. A classic looking point-and-click, including the old SCUMM interface, involving the creators of my favorite child hood games? Can hardly get better than that. :)
Anyways, I've been playing the classics like both Indiana Jones, the first three Monkey Islands, Simon the Sorcerer, Zac McKracken (when will that finally be on Steam?!), Day of the Tentacle, to name some, in the 90s. There's no way to proof that apart from some quiz or something, so I have to link some Steam links. The Steam account I'm using for Steamgifts is a shared one with my girlfriend, as you maybe can tell from the profile picture, but I also have a separate one just for me, to keep play times and achievements separate.
Unfortunately it doesn't show all my play information for some reason, possibly because of the family sharing. Anyways, I beat Edna & Harvey: The Breakout and The Whispered World, working my way through all the Daedalic games in release order, next up will be A New Beginning. Via ScummVM I'm currently playing the original Broken Sword. King's Quest, the new one, I completed the first chapter so far, and the I have finished The Wolf Among Us. Also planning to go through all other Telltale Games.
My girlfriend is also enjoying some selected titles. Anyways, here is the proof I can link to. For Edna & Harvey or The Wolf Among Us I would have to take a screenshot of my Steam running on my PC.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/zecleaner/stats/345390/?tab=achievements
http://steamcommunity.com/id/soulsurrender/stats/330840/?tab=achievements

Thanks for reading, and like I said, hopefully I'll have a chance to win this new (from the looks of it) masterpiece. :)

Edit: Sorry, I must have overlooked that you don't count Telltale games.

PS: Would a screenshot of Broken Sword in ScummVM and the achievements for Edna & Harvey help any? I would love to take part in the giveaway, but I don't really know any other ways currently to prove to you how much I love point-and-clicks, apart from childhood stories or how many are in my library.

I played most of the big point n click games back when they were new, all the monkey islands, quite a few of the kings and space quests, etc. Deponia was one of the more recent ones... but I don't really have any good proofs... Oh well

The game looks fantastic and earned a spot on my wishlist right away.
I played and finished many point & click adventure games, from the old Lucas Arts (Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island) to Daedalic and lots in between.
Here are some from Steam:

You can find more on my games list , including "1953 - KGB Unleashed", the "Blackwell" series, "Jack Orlando Director's Cut", "Machinarium", "Syberia" I and II, "The Last Door" and "The Journey Down".

Cheers, have a great weekend!

Writing here mostly for bump, but I also hope to get a chance in this giveaway. I will understand if I'll have to pass on this one though.

I love playing adventure games, but I haven't really got a way to prove it. It is because I mostly play them on Raspberry Pi model B3 (For those who somehow never heard about it - it's a 35$, credit card size computer) using Dosbox and SCUMMVM (fun fact - Nintendo of America wanted Lucasarts to remove credits from the game for the people who wrote engine for the Maniac Mansion, because "Nintendo Scumm" was sounding slightly wrong for them) I kinda turned it into portable computer (case is still a very early Work in Progress, and keyboard looks like a mess, I have no time to finish this, but it works)

My Raspberry is packed with:

  • Leisure suit Larry collection (from GOG)
  • Space Quest collection (Steam)
  • Police Quest collection (GOG)
  • Sam and Max Hit The Road (original CD still works in this case, and weirdly I haven't lost it yet)
  • I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream (Steam)
  • Teenagent (GOG)
  • Broken Sword 1 and 2 (GOG, but I also have them on Steam)
  • Flight of The Amazon Queen (GOG)
  • Beneath a Steel Sky (directly from Raspbian repository, but I also have it on Steam)
  • Softporn Adventure (GOG) - not sure if this one counts as point and click, since it kinda lacks mouse support, sound, and graphics. But since it was made in 1981, and was later remade under the name "Leisure Suit Larry" I guess it deserves a place in this list. (side note - I've got only DOS re-release from 1994 with all bugfixes, not the 1981 Apple 2 original)

If anyone needs some technical advice how to make them running on Raspberry I can help.

I still got few point and click games on Steam with achievements:
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MSMW/stats/TheWalkingDead?tab=achievements
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MSMW/stats/appid/261030/achievements
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MSMW/stats/appid/206440/achievements
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MSMW/stats/appid/297290/achievements
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MSMW/stats/appid/316790/achievements
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MSMW/stats/appid/316790/achievements (not sure if this counts as Point and Click, but it is a spiritual successor to the genre in my opinion)

As you see 4 of them got 100% achievements (if you count game with 1 achievement as 100% completed, and Life Is Strange), but many point and clicks doesn't have them.

Also on a side note - my 4 year old nephew wanted really badly to play some kind of game, and my sister was a little afraid to bump into something harmful for kid his age. I showed him Teddy Floppy Ear. He finished entire Mountain Adventure. (it took him a little over 3 weeks, accumulating a total of 8 hours of gameplay) I also convinced my mother to play Botanicula and both Syberia games. So technically point and click adventures are multi generation games of choice in my family.

so what I'm going to ask is for potential entries to nominate themselves by commenting on this discussion and explain why you should get a chance to win Thimbleweed Park

If my passion for adventure games and PnCs hasn't been expressed vocally and persistently enough that we're not to the point by which I can earn passage through automatic recognition of my suitability, then perhaps I don't deserve the chance to begin with. :(

I've more-often-than-not played PnCs [and other non-online, immersive games] in offline mode, and many that I've played aren't on Steam, as well- so it's kinda hard for me to give any sort of mechanical validation.

or Telltale games towards your cause - they aren't really point & click adventures, sorry.

If you want to refer to them more precisely, the subgenre for those is 'Cinematic Adventure Game', and also includes Life is Strange [unless your intent is to signify that LiS is a richer game than Telltale offerings, in which case I can't argue the point]. You should probably also exclude Myst-likes..?

I really like point & click adventure and played a lot of them

Deponia was e.g. a really great series
Deponia
Deponia 2
Deponia 3
Deponia 4 I don't understand why there are still some left, I had them all the last time I played

Sadly, as much as I would love to enter for this game, in contemplating my track record with Point and Click games, I realise that I actually have a few really good ones I haven't got around to playing yet. I suppose it's my duty to actually dig those up before I deprive someone else of a chance here.

Still, that's a tasty giveaway. Whoever wins is going to love it if the reviews are to be believed <3
Seems like only yesterday the kickstarter finished.

Well, besides being a big PnC and especially monkey island fan (I still have my old cds somewhere in my closet, also bought them on gog) I'm also trying to play all my Sg wins since january. Here's some proof from my monthly blaeo post. Trying to get to 40% sg wins played until the end of the year. Currently at 35% IIRC.

Thanks for bringing this game to our attention, wishlisted!

Some completed point and click adventures with achievements.
There were some adventures with no achievements, like Hector, or with broken achievements on my OS, like 1954 Alcatraz.

I have played and finished many adventures a long time ago, multiple times the above number, before I even had a steam account. As they are one of my favorite genres, I don't really think why it is necessary to explain why I would like to have the chance to play an interesting and old school looking adventure game :)

Also as I mentioned in this post a month ago, some adventures that I have finished in the past and I would like to see on Steam:

The Curse of Monkey Island
Escape from Monkey Island
Gilbert Goodmate and the Mushroom of Phungoria
Full Throtle
Leisure Suit Larry Series

I would love to join this one. I'm a big fan of those types of games, but as for proving game time, I mostly own such games on gog.com, so that's a little hard. I recently finished Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis, Loom, The Dig, and Day of the Tentacle. I'm also a huge fan of Wadjet Eye Games, though they're not exactly the same as Thimbleweed, they're the closest thing to the old school adventure games of today.

I've played most of the big Sierra and Lucasarts games of old, and consider them leaps and bounds ahead of todays adventure games. Sure, many of them are short, and frankly not very good if you don't look at them through rose tinted glasses, there's just something about them that makes me feel right at home, and I always enjoy my time with them.
