Did you ever play the original Myst, on any platform?
Yes, I did play the original Myst back in the 90s, and honestly, I hated it. I've tried many games of the following subgenre since then, but no matter how much I loved adventure games in general, I just couldn't (and still can't) get these ones at all. Puzzles are too overcomplicated to be enjoyable, worlds are empty, and there's basically no story at all (sure, Myst games have some kind of lore, but that's not enough for me). I've even realized that I refused to call a puzzle adventure I enjoyed (like The Talos Principle) Myst-like, yep. Anyway, it's always so nice to see that someone tries to bring this or that adventure game to the masses, thank you!

I remember playing Myst a little bit way back on my Win95 computer. I didn't get very far, but it looked really cool. Like Tzaar mentioned on the first page, it definitely gives off that vibe.

I played Myst on a 3DO game console way back in the day. I didn't even own a PC back then (I had a Macintosh).

After many years of development, XING: The Land Beyond released September 21st!
I haven't heard any real buzz about this game, and it's not on any of my Steam friends' wishlists (some of which are quite extensive). So I'd like to help spread the word about the game and its release. It's kind of a Myst-like game, but built with the Unreal engine and featuring (optional) VR support. Give it a look!

Back in March 2013, I backed a little Kickstarter from a brand new fledgling company called White Lotus Interactive made of of three friends who I believe were recent college grads. They set out to create an ambitious 3D puzzle adventure (basically a "Myst-like" game) that featured an original score, weather control, integrated day-night cycle, 3D environmental puzzles, and more. Requesting a budget of $15,000 USD and a scheduled delivery date of October 2013 (about 7 months from the end of the KS), they launched their little campaign, crossed their fingers, and hoped for the best.
They clearly had no idea what they were doing. Seven months and 15K to develop a 3D puzzle adventure through mountains, deserts, forests, volcanoes and more? Clearly this was destined to 1) fail outright or 2) become Kickstarter abandonware. However, there was a certain moxie these three had, an infectious youthful enthusiasm, so I figured I could fire off $15 USD to back the game and hope for the best.
Well, about four years later than they originally planned, XING: The Land Beyond is releasing September 21st. They've been all over the conference tour, have added extensive (optional!) VR support (Vive, Rift, OSVR), received an Unreal Developer Grant, and have increased the breadth of what they originally set out to accomplish.
The only remaining question is if the game will be any good. :) Take a look and maybe go find out for yourselves! And Thanks for reading.
